I hate ITunes

If most of your music was acquired outside of the iTunes store (me too) then I suggest looking at an app like TuneUp -- deals with missing cover art, correct song and album tags, and helps to identify and remove duplicates. It really helps to take away a lot of the pain in managing your music.

thank you will check it out at home. hopefully my nightmare will be over soon :)

Hate the UI and navigation as well...
Agree; I expect that we'll see an improvement in this area -- now that the idevices with ios5 have made the PC optional and that the framework for this app was developed more than 10 years ago when the app store, photos, etc were not even considered.

The bolting on of features has been less than ideal, but I still think it has held up well considering the difference between what it was originally conceived to do vs what it is today.

Unfortunately it's not free ($49), and can on occasion be also little problematic -- but to be honest I couldn't do without it; nothing quite like having a clean iTunes library (tags, art, genre, etc.)

An alternative

URGH - I hate this program!

If I type 'Armageddon' - is it possible to see the full album instead of all these different songs?

I wish it would do what I want instead of what it feels is right. I'll simply like to click a compilation and see everything on that disc ...

EDIT : Like the below post

While we're at it, check the tags ...

100% within Windows Explorer and 100% within Windows Media Player. I open Windows Media Player and have tiles and tiles of icons of covers that look fantastic. Almost anything you click has album art.

You let iTunes take over and about 30% of covers are available. Armageddon is one - and if anyone here wants me to send an MP3 with embedded to see, I'll do it.

Oh - right clicking and asking iTunes to find it always says 'cannot find album art'

If you hover your mouse over "Bon Jovi - Armageddon" you can click "Play album". Then either "View - Go to Current Song" or Cntr-L to see complete album list. (Or, now that I think about it, possibly double-click on it to go to album list).

PS. you need to work on your covers...

...:D

View > as album list?
Or View > as cover flow?

That only lists that one song ... not the whole album like WMP :/

I'm TRYING :P

Everything is great everywhere else ... cept iTunes.

It works for me. I just tested it on a compilation as well. Using the same grid view as you are. Double-clinking on any result takes me to that album's complete song list.

Make sure that the album is marked as a compilation maybe? (select all songs, Get Info, Options, Part of Compilation --> yes)

Ok - making it a compilation works ...

So now I'm expected to sit and do that for 31GB of compilations?

EDIT : my Compilations are in a separate folder called 'compilations' ... What if I delete my library, ONLY import that folder, highlight the entire library and set it? Or do I need to go album at a time?

I've selected all ... Let's see how it goes. It's going to take an hour and it appears iTunes can't multi task? No way of getting rid of th window?

I'm taking a stab here, but google how the compilation tag is applied in itunes, then select your whole compilation folder in MP3Tag and set the songs to the relevant value.

Eish... I used iTunes waaay back... at least 5 or 6 years ago last.

I remember running an update, and a little box popped-up post install that asked if I wanted iTunes to manage my music library or something... I clicked Yes... and then proceeded to trash 140GB of mp3 tags. Removed my painstakingly applied info on all my songs. They ALL became undefined nonsense.

I was then told, by my Mac using brother... that I should have selected NO when prompted... and it was my own fault. I thought that managing my music library was iTunes primary function at the time... it was after-all highly recommended to me by my Apple devoted brother. I guess PC users expect something different from the software.

It was removed from my PC that very day and has never been used since.

It took a looong time to re-create it all. Dial-up internet, and no real tagging services then... before MusicBrainz and such. It was a mission.

I hate iTunes more than you. I am sure.
