I Hate Telkom!

Internet users, hating Telkom since, idk, 9 years ago apparently...

So, realistically speaking, is there any way around Telkom to get "affordable" uncapped internet here?
Depends on your needs, but those of us who use Telkom, use it for a reason, and that's because no one else can provide the same service at the same price.

I simply cannot compare 3G or 4G or even LTE at R778 for 150GB unshaped data + unshaped uncapped between 00:00 - 06:00 at 10Mbps to any other service available in this country. I'm pedantic as well so I don't like having to connect or dial to something. When I switch on my laptop I expect connectivity to the world wide web automatically.

Using VOX special price. Some people have had issues, particularly in the evenings with VOX; I have had no issues as of yet with them in the Pretoria East area.
 
Using Vox, Mweb and Afrihost..and have to say that most of the time I use Vox. Not perfect, but no worse than any of the others.
I had a Telkom account too...but cancelled it after their usual no-service fault repairing. It was no great loss for them, but a moral victory for me.
 
Nexus apparently there is a by law... There is nothing we can do about it.
We went to court and stuff to find out etc...

Even if i am not at home the telkom guys can jump over and do their thing and we cant lay a charge! This country is soooo full of sh*t.!!

Anyways I got my justice... I have adopted the SATAWU methods! Smashed the windscreen, popped his tires... and gave him a smack! He said he's calling the cops and going to have me arrested. I showed him that any damage done on my property is my responsiblity and outside the jurisdiction of the police :) So he can go ***** himself! Basically i can do what the ***** i want on my own property!!! Even if that means *****ing up a telkom van!!!

I cant wait for another company to come along... Even if their service is worse then telkom i dont care. I am going to change the first chance i have!! I am tired of Telkom and their nonsense!!!!! Sons of b*tches!!! Mother *****ers!! I OPENLY CURSE EVERY SINGLE TELKOM SCUM BAG!!! I HOPE YOU GET MUGGED, RAPED, MURDERED, KNOCKED BY A BUS, [INSERT WISH HERE]!!! I use to have sympathy for these people.... NOT ANY MORE!!! If these b*stards want a WAR i'll GIVE them a WAR!!!!!!!

Next Telkom guy that has to do something on the exchange in my backyard is going to get a good few smacks first then he can come in.... I am going to put a sign outside my house that states:

"If you are a telkom employee you are subject to 20 minutes of physical abuse upon entering. By entering the premises you abide the rules and agree to the terms and conditions layed out"

I am going have this engraved in the smallest humanly possible font and have stuck outside my front gate!!!!

I too am shocked at that post. I know it's an old thread, but this post 're rape, murder, mugged etc was disgusting. I cannot believe what I read. No matter the issue, the frustration over Telkom, that was just not right.
Hence I said wow...... I also am pissed off with Telkom but not that pissed off

If around R500-600 a month for uncapped 4mbps ADSL from Telkom is unaffordable to you, then you're probably not gonna find anything significantly cheaper elsewhere.

I think it all depends on the experience individuals have with Telkom.

I can relate to some of the frustration the OP is feeling. I mean, I've been waiting 4 months already to have my line cancelled because I relocated without moving my line. In the meantime they're still billing me.

The line I got now is faulty and I've been complaining about it for 3 months now. They had contractors replace a pole and put up a new 10-pair aerial cable. Telkom is supposed to connect the cable but they don't want to. I'm paying for a 20-meg line but my download speeds are 100kb at best! There's too much packet loss. My voice line is also dead!

The technicians were supposed to come to connect the cable yesterday, and they never pitched. According to Telkom they were scheduled to do it yesterday and no one can tell me what's going on.

I don't agree with everything the OP said...please bear in mind that there are people who get the short end of the stick
 
I'm close to giving up. I have logged 6 faults for the same thing, it just never gets fixed.
 
I'm sorry but I have to disagree, we had a major fault in Clarendon PMB and they fixed it within a day, today. I would like to thank the tecs involved. Great Job!! I honestly thought it would take days to repair.
 
We logged a report because our ADSL connectivity kept dropping (and the speed was slow) irrespective of whether I use Afrihost or SAOL. So a tech guy comes on 28 March. Picks up the phone and says everything is okay. He doesn't test anything inside the house, then says he's going to check outside. 10 minutes later the phone is dead, and he never comes back. I call Telkom to report the issue soon after discovering our line is dead. Telkom consultant says they will keep the fault report open. It gets closed.

Opened another fault report on 30 March. It gets closed. Line is still dead. I've just opened another fault report online. And using mobile data is bloody expensive!!!

Even at work, we had to call a tech guy 4 times before our fax line got fixed. They kept sending the tech guy to the wrong place!!!

I HATE TELKOM MORE

It was/is the most painful experience to be forced to open a Telkom line account to get ADSL at my house.

From the very first moment of trying to open a Telkom account, I have had a non-stop battle. Getting information out of them has been impossible. Different people you speak to give you different answers and at the end of the day you just don’t get any of the information require.

When I asked for a phone to be installed; I was never told that it came without a phone.

Then I was told to pay an R700.00 deposit, which I was told would be credited back to me once the line was installed. After the line was installed I was told that the R700.00 was going to be used against my first few month installments. I opened the account in June and enquired numerous times as to when and how I’d be getting my statements to pay my account. Each time I was told that once the R700.00 was used and I owed them money they will send me an invoices.

I received my first bill 15 September 2016 12:26 PM which reflects that I owe Telkom R854.35!!?? I only have a line rental (no calls, just a line) How does Telkom justify a thump suck of R700.00 deposit?! A fare deposit might have been something like 3 months Line Rental of R165.00 X 3 = R495.00?! Why the HELL R700.000 Telkom??!!

Why can’t customers get proper info EVER. I phoned accounts today to find out what is going on and finally just wanted them to close my account. I was told to dial 10213 and chose option 2 to get cancellations. This is NOT even the cancellations departments’ nr. Does Telkom deliberately mislead all their clients to steal their money OR what is going on??!!

Now I am told to pay the R854.35 to close the account and then they will give my R700.00 back........I DO NOT BELIEVE THESE LYING IDIOTS ANYMORE!!!

I don't know why they took R700.00 from me? Why was it not given back after installation, as I was told? Why did it not go against credit to my account.......SORRY but I have no reason to believe TELKOM will actually give my money back after I close this account AND ABOVE all I'm sorry that I would now also have to close my account with AXXESS (ADSL & Data) due to TELKOM's incompetence and blatantly lying to their clients.

TELKOM is making me sick!!!
 
Line rental only is what suppose to be R165.00? so if I opened an account on the 1st of June (and lets pretend Telkom actually installed the line on the 1st of June) That is 3 months 16 days today.....How does TELKOM come up with a bill of R854.35?! R165.00 X 4 = R660!! Never mind the R700.00 originally stolen.........WTF

See the itemised section of your invoice for a breakdown of charges.

Your R700 deposit is only returned when you cancel the service.
