iBurst international is down at the moment (It went down at 3am friday 22 sep)

So I went to the iBurst incedent report page and saw they are aware of the situation.

Then I went to verizons site and found the following on their network status page:

Type: VERIZON SA NETWORK

Date: 21 Sep 2006 10:37:37 PM
Scheduled Date: 21 Sep 2006
Cause of Problem: Circuit Upgrade
Point of Impact:
Gallo Manor - Johannesburg SAIX
Symptoms Experienced: Loss of connectivity
Severity: Critical
Status: Attending
Attending: Telkom Engineers
Ticket Number:
Additional Information: We will be upgrading our peering link to Saix tonight at 00:01:00.They will be brief down time which is estimated to last no more than 15 minutes. We apologize for any inconvenience caused during this upgrade.

So Telscum went and messed up our internet
So much for only being down 15min.

Sigh, and I thought that I would not have to deal with Telkom problems since I signed up with iBurst....

Also, a tip for those who need to access international sites:
It looks like google is still available, so you can use the google cache (obivously not as good as the real thing, but if you need to look something up, it's very useful)

No, it is up again.

It went up after 9 (maybe sooner). What gets me is that it was scheduled for 1 minute past 12 this moring, but it was messed up all the way to 9.

Well, it was telscum engineers doing the work...

My Inet went down last nite at 1am :( and never came back up, before I left for work....

seems as iburst does get affected by damn teleskum!

It's not like you can expect telsummies to work before 9 in the morning....

my international is still heavily degraded....

before i forget...I HATE TELSCUM

You could have been in Zim - all of its internet connection is gone / down because someone did not pay the $170 000.00 bill. Reported in Beeld, 22 September 2006.

Well hey might or might not, atm they dont actually use SAIX, its just their Verizon links that go through SAIX afaik. I dont really know much about where they get their bandwidth from, seems to be alot of places Verizon and C&T Cable in Europe are the only two I really know..

The SNO should offer better prices, so I'd hope they use them. Not shure how we would find out if they ever do?

If they are peering through SAIX, then Telkom do get revenues from iBurst

If through another first tier which also use Telkom then,
Telkom still get revenue from iBurst in another format.
So basically, Iburst is linked to Telkom and vice versa?

Iburst are quite seperate from telkom, almost totally, they use alot of upstream providers. Mostly Verizon and some other smaller ones I'd presume, but Telkom hardly controls them at all.

Its just whenever they happen to get involved, you notice.

I still don't fully understand how Telkom can be a part of a totally different company. I-burst offers WIRELESS internet, while telkom only offers ADSL. How is it that these two companies can even slightly be linked.
