I have a problem. Can't decide on a phone.

I have posted a few threads and asked many questions but cant decide on a phone. I am pretty pathetic :sick:

It was either the iPhone 4 16GB or 32GB, not sure which size OR the Samsung Galaxy S. Now that the Torch has hit our shores it threw a spanner in works. Also any idea when the HTC Desire HD will be released?
 
iphone 4 all the way. The iphone is such a remarkable phone and with all the apps you just cant beat it,Plus the iphone 4 ios4.1 jailbreak is out and it works perfectly so you can do some great things.

And dont listen to the apple haters,android is just as limited(if not more)than the iphone especially once you jailbreak the devise.

KSINGH, I'm sitting here thinking about the same thing, my iPhone 3G contract has run out & I can upgrade. So, what are the choices? (IMHO)

1. iPhone 4.

I'm sorry to say it, but this phone has been controversal since its release. The antennae, the gorilla glass that's not so durable when dropped, etc. Rumour has it that Apple will be releasing the iPhone 5 early, just to get rid of the bad iPhone 4 vibes.

2. Windows Phone 7

It looks extremely promising, since the hardware spec of the phones are high-end and the new Metro interface looks very funky. However, there are a very long list of things/function missing from the phone, I expect it to become a serious player next year...but not now.

3. Blackberry OS 6

Sounds promising as well, especially with the cheap unlimited data subscription in South Africa. However, the Blackberry OS doesn't cut the mustard anymore and looks a bit dated against Android & Windows Phone 7. Blackberry had to slash the selling price of the Torch in half after a week of release. It just aint selling in America anymore.

4. Android

Three phones that grab the limelight at the moment - the Droids (unfortunately not available in SA), the Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Desire/HD. I can't understand why the HTCs does not have ample onboard storage....think the Desire HD will only have 1.5GB of storage, which doesn't do it for me in 2010 anymore. We want more....and that's where the Samsung Galaxy is much better with 8GB/16GB + 32GB SD card. Also, the Galaxy S display must be THE one to beat at the moment, which is what you'll be looking at most of the time .... and a lot of forum members can testify to how good it looks.

So, for me it will be a Galaxy S for now. :)
 
Budget n functionality will determine your choice...
Since u are looking at top end smartphones...budget not an issue...32GB always better than 16GB...its ipod as well remember...more space...more music...plus 300,000 apps on istore :)

Can any1 beat that?best multimedia...lifestyle phone

Looking for business phone? Bb torch...

Best of both...iphone...
 
Go for the Samsung wave,awesome phone.
Build quality is good,features good and price good.
 
hmmmm the phones you should really be considering are the Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Desire HD, imo those are the 2 best so far, iphone 4 ... fail!!! not
that im an apple hater .... iphone 4 just didnt make it ... lets hope the ip5 does better
 
I agree with the above post, the Galaxy S and the Desire HD are the most advanced phones out there. The Desire Z is also a great option if you really want a phone with a keyboard, I don't know if/when this one is coming to SA but it damn well should.

I have a Galaxy S myself, it takes the lead as a media phone with the amazing screen and sound quality. Despite not having a flash the camera takes good photos. It sucks for video though, only one mic so it's mono and bad quality sound.

Desire HD should be awesome as well. Heard bad things about HTC's sound quality but maybe this one will be different. As a business and communications phone, this should take the lead due to HTC Sense.
 
I am really leaning towards the Galaxy S but may opt for the Desire HD if it will be released within the next 4 weeks.
 
okay my rep sez the HD will be here in q1/q2 next year
 
Galaxy S all the way.

People complain about lag on it ( but even with a ton of apps running, I haven't seen it - SA firmware maybe? ), but in the end, the screen.. You just have to look at it once to understand just how special it is to work with. The color is clear and crisp, no matter the lighting.

As for apps and stuff, it supports *everything*, so whatever you're looking for is easy enough to find on the market, and paid apps are coming to SA soon, says google.

In the end, my brother got the iPhone 4, and even he is now leaning toward the android camp after seeing that there's literally no reason to not have one.

The "gorilla glass" protecting the screen is nigh on indestructible ( a friend figured he'd be clever and attack it with a headphone jack, didn't even leave a mark, and he is also an iPhone 4 owner, so he wanted to see it fail.

Oh, and don't forget the weight. Because of the Super AMOLED display, the phone is thinner and lighter ( by about 40% ) than the iPhone, giving it less bulk, and more battery power.

I am very biased, but I weighed up my options ( and very nearly bought an iPhone, actually ), but settled on the Galaxy S.

EDIT:

The Desire HD is a great phone, but the Galaxy has a more advanced processor, better screen ( though slightly smaller ) and more onboard storage, I wouldn't wait for it if you can find stock of the Galaxy S.
 
waiting on forms to get the S. should hopefully get it tomorrow or Thursday. i will just go pfffft if the HD is released in a week or 2. i am gatvol.
 
I want to get the Galaxy S just perturbed by the fact that MTN does not provide the same kind of deal as with the iPhone (free data chucked in). I am waiting for November to see if MTN change their deals on the Galaxy S.

The new Qualcomm processor in the Desire HD is actually very close to the Samsung Hummingbird processor. In some areas it beats it, in others it loses. Samsung still has the best mobile 3D graphics performance in the market, I don't think any of the games come close to stressing it yet. games like NFS Shift run on phones with less than 1 third of the graphics performance.

As for the lag. Well compared to most phones it's very fast, if you're coming from Nokia like me you wont even notice it :p
But the lag fixes do make it blazing fast so it's worth installing one.

it aint free. you either pay R49 for 150MB or R149 for 300MB

Agreed!

CellC has the SGS for R280 (100min), that plus R99 for MTN200 is still cheaper than MTN's own offering...

Then use old phone with CellC, for whatever calls and MTN SIM in SGS :D

EDIT: MTN Contract subs- look at sainet.co.za. Great 3G rates. I pay R89 for 300megs (sign up special), think it's R89 for 250 now. Great price, and can be shared between 2 MTN phones :)

Bullseye. How is the camera on the Galaxy S? I see it does not have a flash.
