I Just Bumped My External Hdd Over !!!!

It fell on its side and the drive started to make spinning noises, now when i switch it back on it makes a little noise every two seconds or so.


Propably broke.

So mad at me. :mad: :mad: :mad:
 
Is there any way to recover my data ?

I am so p1**ed right now, 400gb gone
 
What is spinrite ?
 
SpinRite does a "deep" read of your drive and picks up all traces of files. Files spanning across phyically damaged areas will not be read correctly. You should be able to pick up quite a bit though

Ok i will see what i can do, I feel like crying

Not sure if I am more mad at breaking the hdd or possibly losing my data
 
been there done that, got the great big hole in my heart....

Two tricks:
freeze it (did not work for me)
double-boil it (did not try this, as I only discovered this trick once I had tossed the drive).

I'm convinced it must be a 400gb drive thing (falling and going pear-shaped). The same thing happened to a friend of mine with a 400gb drive as well.
 
I know how you feel. I sent me Western Digital 250 Laptop harddrive flying...literally.
After the incident it only picked up as a USB 1.1 device.
Thankfully was still under warrantee, so i got the hdd replaced :)
 
I tried spinrite but it refuses to do anything, you get to the screen where you press enter to start recovery and then just error messages, something about harware fault.

Any more suggestions?

It doesn't get picked up in windows as external storage.

Seems like the disks inside came totally of their possie, i have never had a hdd in my hand that was so loose in the inside.

Can I open it up and see if I can put the disks back on ther place or is that just dumb of me?

Software solutions probably arent going to help a physically damaged drive.

If the hard drive is broken, then there's nothing you can do.

You probably had a head crash.

You can send it to a data recovery specialist, but they charge a lot of money, and it might not be worth it.

Agree with Bwana - software won't fix physical damage.
