Too much cold in my room, especially at night.
I'm thinking about buying this, not sure if it's a good idea.
My budget is literally tight.
Pick n Pay = R230
Checkers = R250

If your budget is tight, then heat yourself, not your room. Blanket. Jersey. Thermal underwear, etc. Poorly insulated south african houses are very inefficient to heat and keep warm.Too much cold in my room, especially at night.

You can't go wrong with IR (instant warmth when you turn it on, even in a frigid windy cape town cold front outdoors or through a glass french door or 10m across the room):...for my office.
What is the best (and cheapest) kind to buy? My office is fairly small, around 2.5m x 5m, but with a very high ceiling (its probably as tall as it is long).
Obviously with the power situation, I want to get something that isn't too heavy on juice, but I'm worried that the hot air will just rise and leave me cold down here at my desk.
Anybody had any experience with those convection heaters?

fan heaters should be banned, IR FTW!I was thinking of buying another small fan-heater (around R100) but in the end I just tightly closed by eyes & bought a 3-panel gas heater from pick & pay (R700).
The 9kg gas bottle was R400 & will cost R155 to refill. According to the heater's specs, it uses 230g of gas per hour with all 3 panels burning.
I see you get a small 3-panel Alva heater that is half the size of the heater I bought (R460 @ Makro). It takes a 4.5kg braai bottle & uses about 180g of gas per hour with all 3 panels lit.
Fan heater is a scam. Get an IR one.I was thinking of buying another small fan-heater (around R100) but in the end I just tightly closed by eyes & bought a 3-panel gas heater from pick & pay (R700).

Just use IR and heat your body, not the whole room.Beginning to lean towards the fan heater option. At least then it circulates air in the room.
