Hi guys... I am gonna be new to the world of ADSL. With all the options available presently, I would like to obviously get the best. Could someone please offer some advice.

Here are somethings about me and my location:
Olivedale 011 704xxxx
Will use MOSTLY in evenings and weekends.
Need internet for everything...

I have no idea on how much of bandwith i'll need, but i never wanna run out... and once i get some ADSL i'll probably be using a lot of it. price wise, i am not currently looking to pay too much. I would probably say in the region of R500. not more!
Also, i don't require anything more than 512kb line currently.

So, again... please help. :)

Thanks... what about openweb, axxess, and the likes? Techinically, what will a 512 line cost me, and what will a 384 line cost me?
Routers? Best wireless option? Man, so many things need to be answered...

Hi,

I've sent you a PM with a customised deal :)

browse the forums and all those answers will pop out like sore thumbs. Your needs aren't as different as many others.

384k - Check Telkom website (remember the analog line cost)
384k Uncapped MWEB - Check their website for pricing
Router- I usually go with the Netgear 384G, Telkom should sell them now, but you can pick one up at IC or online. Usually ranges in price, so I'd suggest go to prophecy.co.za to check for pricing

NEVER GO WIRELESS INTERNET unless you're fine with not having the internet the night you want to use it or mediocre to crap speeds most of the time. Oh, and if you have **** ton load of money you can burn.

routers il go for billion with wireless.

openweb gold is better, but they currently sold out on vodacom backbone accounts, which best backbone of the package.

axxess is IS reseller is horrible throttling.

line of 512k is R300 or around about , 384 is R150 im not sure actually, i bought complete package, line with data with mweb 512k uncapped is R600

I woudn`t recommend going for the all inclusive packages right off the bat, it saves a few rands every months, but its much more limited in the sense that you cant switch between isps easily. Performance and prices change rapidly nowdays so dont get stuck where u cant change when u want to. Ive been on Mweb since they launched uncapped, quite happy.

512 it is... now, to make up my mind on which option... thanks guys!
