90kg is a big aim, its going to take a long time...

...get a protein shake, eat lots of protein and veg, far more than you would normally would. gym with weights, cut down on cardio and then eat some more (always healthy though)

Stay away from cardio, that is for the lean look.

Stick with free weights and have your gym work out a program for you.
If you can get one, get a Personal Trainer, they will be able to assist you with a diet, gym plan and supllements if needed.

90KGs is way overshooting it tbh. You don't need to get more than 80-85.

Hi guys,

I need to get into shape, I'm a 1.7m tall, and weigh 70kg. I seriously need to pack some muscles and perhaps take my bodyweight to 90kg. I've read in another thread that free weights are better than machines, so I guess I will go with those.

My problem is that I've been gaining weight, and I'm starting to get man boobs:eek:, which sucks because I don't even have a protruding belly airbag. So please advice me on the kind of supplements/proteins/steroids that one can take to pack muscles very fast.

Thanks in advance

wow your light,i weigh 97kg and doing gym 3 hours a day.it's not that hard when you get started, just don't eat in the morning (maybe a apple or 2) and do gym 1-3 hours a day.EDIT:forget shakes and that other stuff u can eat meat but should also consider eating fruits and veg.EDIT:remember to go bike riding now and then the extra G's will do you some good.

I started gym beginning of 2009.

So 2 months in I can't say I have noticed much of a difference :/ and I haven't been able to lift much heavier than when I started...but I guess it is still early days right?

My problem is diet...I can't always afford the things I need and I usually end up eating whatever without thinking about protein to carbs etc... Otherwise it has been a minimum of 3 times a week at the gym...pretty much the same as what cerebus mentioned just now. A little less on the abs though but I usually do those near the end of the workout so maybe a good idea to start with those instead :)

1-3 hours a day :confused: I was under the impression if you don't rest regularly and go overbored you do more damage than good without allowing your body to repair??

I suppose you hear different things about whats right and wrong all the time though...thats the problem for newbies at gym --- everyone has a different right and wrong and so it is still trial and error :/

If you want your lifting to improve you just need to add the weight. Your muscles will compensate. Don't do the same set of exercises two days in a row or so, because they need time to heal and rebuild. But the next time you go just add on a kg or so. In the beginning you should find it easy to build up your lifting ability. Only later you hit a peak and it becomes more incremental gain.

if u feel tired the next day then fatteing foods could be good (need the weight so the spuure has a place to expand to.

Hmmm ok I must just be doing it wrong then.

For instance I was able to do a set of 34kg dumbell bench but if I did a set of 10 of those I would not be able to bench even 16kg dumbells properly after that lol..my muscles would be completely done for after 1 set. So it was kind of pointless I felt as pushing it cut my workout short and drained me waaay too fast and I wasn't sure if this were a bad thing. So now I dropped it down to 26kg last week just so I can finish the sets comfortably-ish and still do incline and other stuff. Funny thing is I seemed to be getting weaker each time and surely this shouldn't happen at such an early stage?? even if I do eat plenty...well at least I think I do.

I will just have to carry on working it out and trying to raise it a bit each time.

If I go three times a week I group them eg.. Back and shoulders 1day, Biceps and legs 1day then chest and triceps 1day. I do abs all the time near the end of each workout and I always start out with a 15min cardio although sometimes my heart rate goes over 170 at about 10-12mins with the machine warning me and shyte and I cut it short :D man am I unfit :p

Why do men always want to turn to steroids???

Maybe just get your ass off the couch and start moving :D

Yip, take a spade and dig in the garden or mow the lawn. I can give you a long list that will help you build a lot of muscle!

Well I ain't going to try any supplements :) lets see how far I get without 'em. I can get products for cost price where I work anyway but not even going to try.

My gym partner recently got married and is still on honeymoon. :/ I guess that's that...no-one to encourage me anymore lol.

cut out the beer as well, I haven't changed much in terms of my eating patterns and gymage but I have cut beer out almost completely (switched to whiskey) and I have shed about 3 kgs of hopefully fat...beer is the devil :D

Unfortunately, I do not drink, however at work I have to sit down 12 hours infront of a computer(so many lifes at hand), then after that I'm too exhausted and go straight to bed.

Eyes aside, I don't want to look like Bruce Lee, but I wouldn't mind looking like Randy Orton(WWE Superstar). I don't know if there is a gym in Brits, but I will look around or go to Harties or Pta.

I feel light, I even have to hold on to fixed poles when its windy:eek:. 1-3 hours a day? Is that even possible? Do you train muscles or endurance? Your advice is noted

Thats what I'm scared of, going to the gym and have no progress

When I'm on time off, I do all of those, infact my next time off I will be painting exterior walls and laying down pavement, if time will allow(30days) I will also install a new seawage tank and all plumbing lines. I'm very much into "DIY"

34kg dumbbell press is very high. I'm comfortable with about 32 right now, so I can manage three reps and still have energy for inclines and so on. I think it's a bit pointless to take it to the point where you can't lift after you've finished a set. Then you may be damaging your muscles more than doing them any real benefit, although it may give you some good results.

How often are you going to the gym? Maybe it's not enough times a week? Tell the truth I don't often do groups of muscles, perhaps I need to for better results. I just play it by ear, see what feels like it needs work.

Think maybe concentrate more on the cardio side? You need to hit a stride, unless you're ill your heartrate shouldn't go that high.

I got that problem too, I don't go to gym or anything but I'm very impatient and unless I can see results within a reasonably amount of time I start losing interest to continue...

Go buy the body for life book ... seriously ... you don't have to buy all the EAS supplements and the training & nutrition advice is excellent. It's tough when you start, but you'll start seeing results in around 4-5 weeks especially if you eat properly

You don't need to train much more than an hour a day.

I did the 12 week program and only used shakes when absolutely didn't have time to make extra meals - results were impressive to say the least. Still use the same principles from the book only concentrating more on endurance training atm. I've lost a bit of muscle mass, but if you keep to the free weight program you'll definitely continue to build bulk.

Stay away 'roids - plenty of my mates are k@kking off now because of the juice ... joint, tendon and ligament problems from over-training... strength and endurance gains are insane when you're on a cycle
