Hello

I dont want to get a tracking device for my new car..... im forced into getting one from my insurance company:sick:
Mainly i have come to understand that they dont work. So i dont understand the point of getting one. but since my car isnt covered for theft and hijacking until i have one fitted... im been held to randsom... thanks miway.:(

That been said which is the cheapest device on the market that anyone would recommend I fit.

I see there are much older threads on this, but im guessing that maybe someone knows something new.

Also what the difference between microdots and a tracking device and y would insurance insist on a tracking device.

Change insurance companies if you don't want one. I have never been forced to get one

Tell them to **** off and get your insurance elsewhere.

It's less time and effort changing insurers than getting your car in to have the tracker fitted

Try a different insurance company.

I've recently acquired a 20+ year old car and need to fit a basic tracker in it. It's not mandatory... BUT it works out cheaper for me to have comprehensive insurance + a tracker than simple 3rd party insurance.

Yep Megalin, Beame is the cheapest and the best as more cars are recovered with this unit fitted and I think it costs like R79 my wife's cuzz is also into this business and he recommended this to me as well

I got a quote yesterday from Old Mutual iWyse and because the vehicle is over R300 0000 (on their system, despite the fact I paid far less), I'm forced to get a tracker and pay an additional R180 per month.

Told them they're mad.

Care to provide proof for the bolded bit?

A number of insurance companies will install the tracking device for you, and pay the monthly tracking premium while you are insured with them, and also reduce your insurance premium because the tracking device is fitted. I think DialDirect and Discovery Insure are two examples.

A tracking device is a device that receives uses satellites to work out it's location and sends it location to the tracking company via GSM or another radio technology. There are also some tracking companies that have their own radio network covering all the major roads, towns and cities and use some sort of triangulation to find your car when it is stolen.

The reliability of the tracking device, depends on the quality of the product, and the tracking server, installation and the tracking company. Most tracking companies install these devices in the same place, which the theft syndicates know, and they will essentially remove the tracking device soon after they steal the car.

If you use the car for business travel, and the tracking company provides real-time and historical records from a website then the tracking device is great for logging your business travel for the travel claims from your company and/or SARS.

Micro-dots are small dots with a serial number printed on them, that can be viewed under a microscope. Microdots are sprayed onto a car or other asset and help to trace the owner via the serial number.

If you have a virgin credit card - you can get altech for R69p/m on their special offer

ok i got it for R75 a month miway subsidises it. I have been with miway for 5 years and this is the first im hearing about the discount, i have been paying R220 a month. thats like 8.5k i lost. im so made and sad. i hate insurances.

Ask your insurance company.

They'll only accept certain ones and then usually discount the premium based on that and possibly even pay the installation .

They said any approved tracking system....

Well, I am not sure if I even want my car back IF they recover it with a tracker. Odds are that everything inside would be broken, as thieves tend to search for the tracker.

Thus, for me paying to have a tracker that might prove inefficient is a waste of time. Rather spend the money on top up insurance for a shortfall

Depending on insurer and where you live you might not be insured for theft at all if you don't fit the tracker.
