For graphics design, you might want to look in the R8k range: i5, 4GB RAM minimum, win7 x64, dedicated graphics card, good resolution and screen size + 2-3yr warranty.

For graphic design, a desktop + 24''/27'' display is what I would use.

Desktop RAM is dirt cheap & you gonna need a fair bit.
