During the match, we heard two explosions but weren't sure what they were about. By the end of the game we'd forgotten about them.

As we were exiting, there was a lot of commotion. Police presence everywhere and frantic crowds. People almost stampeded. There were people jumping over stairs, railings and walls. Meanwhile I have no idea what's going on because the police are giving instructions in French.

The metro stations were closed so I couldn't get a train back.
I proceeded to hire a bicycle (they have these bike stations that you use your credit card to hire) and cycle my way back into the city. All completely oblivious to what's going on.

I get back to the hotel and find out that there were two bombs outside the stadium and a hostage situation in the city while I was nonchalantly cycling through.

Hectic. Glad you are safe. Hope you can enjoy the rest of your stay.

Reminds me of 911. I just left new York a few days prior the incident. Thus before the airways shut down.

We were on our way out to party, but the stations closed on us. Luckily I avoided the attacks.

The red pointer is the Bataclan where the hostage situation took place. The blue dot is where I am (2km Away). The match was in Saint Denis towards the top of the map. I cycled right through the area without knowing what was going on because there was no communication in English. I even stopped at the Bastille to look around, only to find out later that it was around the scene of one of the shootings. I thought it was just precautionary measures or perceived threat after the events in Toulon earlier this week.

They should have had some sort of instructions in English to help out the non-French tourists. As you had mentioned you had no idea what was going on and you could've gotten seriously injured or worse.

None of the police approached even spoke English. They wouldn't even try to explain, they'd just dismiss you. But I suppose it was a stressful situation for them.

Glad you're safe man but why post pics of your ticks?

People usually want proof of these things.
