I wonder how many subscribers DSTV lost?

It would be very interesting to hear from an insider or someone who has an uncle in the furniture business who might know how many NoChoice subscribers has donned their life jackets and bailed ship.

Are we talking 100, 500 or thousands or maybe even a couple of hundred thousand?
 
I suspect many Top TV subscribers took it in addition to DSTV. So I'd agree that they probably didn't lose a whole lot.
 
I think they lost ALOT of premium subscribers who have now migrated down to the compact packages....
 
topTV can only be real competition if they start offering serious sports chanels.It is part of any good sat Tv package.Or least has to be.

Yes and no....some recent survey said that 40% (or was it 60%?) of subscribers to DSTV finds the sport important...so either 40% or 60% of their market is vulnerable at the moment. Don't think the losses will be huge, but if Top tv proves to be good, their losses has a reasonable chance to be significant.
 
Not more than 50,000 , that was the amount of TopTv decoders sold when it launched . Now of that 50k, i'm sure majority did not have DSTV anyway , so probably more like 10k and less or so :) [rough guess] . I don't think TopTV will take away much of the current DSTV market so soon, they'll most likely get those that wanted satelite tv but could never afford it . If you have DSTV right now and pay R500+ chances are you'll not be switching until there's more clarity what exactly is showing and whether it's worth it.

I don't think alot of the 50k had DSTV but even if it is only 10% lets hope DSTV starts feeling it...
 
I won't even consider moving. I don't wanna watch rerun SABC movies.

Supersport is a huge part of my life & my wifes family always come & watch by me. Even if their subscription was higher, I would still pay more.

I will be getting TopTV for my parents though. :)
 
The problem is that a bunch of DSTV subscribers rushed out & bought up all the TopTV decoders... now these lot are moaning about the quality on offer at TopTV. They will inevitably go back to their DSTV comfort zone leaving TopTV in the lurch. TopTV's intended market now have no decoders to buy because they are all sold out.
 
I don't think they lost virtually anyone... But in the future, people who are looking at DSTV Select or Compact might consider TopTV, but that's about it.

Unfortunately, TopTV are really doing much different, just providing an alternative to the non-premium DSTV packages.
 
Word on the grapevine is that a lot of people are downgrading from the premium service but sticking with Multichoice.

Makes sense, it is all about options, now two, with full 55 Channels for R249.00 with TTV and same price for Compact - DSTV = similar to Premium spend, around R540.

that's the spirit! keep it up, if more people post stuff like this, they might even do it =)
 
i may be a bit slow but i don't see the link between people downgrading from DTSV Premium and TopTV
