they were coded in series. Like, instead of having a game that takes me 2 weeks to complete (Crysis), the developers make a game with short ( 1 hour) episodes, then I would play more games!! I just don't have the time to complete a game, with so many cool titles out there. I mean, why not? They can have like maybe 9 episodes in one DVD. Then I choose when to complete each. ... mmmm that'll be really cool :rolleyes:
 
Yeah there are levels, but I'm speaking if each "level" being completed with an end scenario, then that 'level' is done ...

still sounds like levels to me.:confused:

Perhaps when completeing a level, just pretend you've just started your next episode, that should "fix" your "problem" :D:D:D
 
See the Save and Exit bit as "To be continued..."

I think he means that each "episode" should have a completed storyline, where order is irrelevant. With levels, you have to complete each level in order. I'd say that something like GTA is one of the few exceptions.
 
Im more the type that likes long games.... i hate when i finish a game in 4 days(crisis)... Thas why i like GTA alot, cos its a long story line.
 
There are long games, just that most folk will not or even worse can not play them. I am thinking of the old school text games, now if only they would put GTA/CRISIS type graphics in these I am sure that the none readers would play them, expect I doubt that most folk would have enought disk space to store the game dame.

Let me waffle a bit more. I used to play on a mud (look it up) called the Realm of Despair, and as you would expect it was totally text based. Line after line of text, as you played. Now once you got into it, you forgot that each room was described in text, and when you entered familar rooms, you saw in your minds eye, what the room was described as. And the same for new rooms that you visited.

The pictures in my mind could never be better in a CG world, not even with the best artists doing the drawing. So if you want some really long games, learn to read a mud.

Alien vs Predator is kinda like that, yes still levels...
 
Just save the game when it gets boring and play it from that point a few weeks later. You should have forgotten about it by then and that way you always think its a new episode :)

Well there's a few of those, mostly by Telltale games. Try the Sam and Max series (it's all via download), There's the forthcoming Penny arcade adventures as well as "Bone".

"Episodic Gaming" is a holy grail in games development, no one seems to have nailed it just yet. The other one to watch is "project Offset", their "Shot stories" narrative idea sounds bang on the money for this sort of thing.
 
Isn't that what they did with Half Life 2? Episode 1? Episode 2? :rolleyes:
 
I agree used to play medievia for over a decade - still pop in now and again but the GM/DM/Vryce is an idiot and a communist idiot at that.

Well, I think some got my point. I mean, what if you buy a game, play like 1 hour (out of 9 hours) and you simply hate it. You've wasted 1 hour with no climax. This way, you get to play an episode, complete it and move on. Maybe months down, you play the last episode, cos people say it's good ;) But more over, I'd rather play a game in episodes due to time constraints, then I can manage if and when I play more episodes, without having to restart the whole game, or search for saved games etc.

It's also like having 9 games in 1, using the same software engine :)
 
I agree with you're point with playing the game and hating it which is why i normally try the demo first or something but I found the problem with having it in episodes is that it requires to buy a new game each time, i mean like half life ep1 and 2 were each like R200 which I ended up getting ep1 again when I got the orange box...
 
Yeah well, I say all the episodes must be included in one DVD :) I mean, even if the price was say 20% more, I say it's worth it. I play and complete Crysis, Hellgate and Fear 2 in one evening, how cool is that ;)
 
Depends on the person, some people play till they finish the game which in that case would prob be able to finish those 3 games in 1 weekend or less and others play like 1 level, go take a break, go out... then play some more later :)
