Afternoon everyone.

This is my very first post on the forum, so I hope someone could help me with the following.

I am currently assisting a company with a VAT audit and need to get their older financial information from a IBM AS400 box, which is no longer in use. The info is residing on a Tape drive.

I have contacted IBM SA for technical support but after making 3 inquiries at the help desk and logging a ticket for follow up, I have yet to receive a response from them. The company no longer has an account with IBM SA so I don't think they are willing to help anyone who does not have a contract with them.

I would extremely thankful if anyone with knowledge on the AS400 system, specifically on how to recover info from the Tape drive to a new HDD could respond to my thread please:D

My knowledge around this type of hardware and the OS it uses is very limited:confused: so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are feeling a little like some DIY then this might help:

Interesting project...

What do they plan to do with the machine once the information is taken off it...

You don't need to deal with IBM - they outsourced AS/400 sales and support about >15 years ago. There should still be a goodly number of AS/400 VARs/agents around. I'd call JD Edwards' SA office and ask to speak to an AS/400 person who can recommend a contractor.

Very cool machine the AS/400. Has a relational database architecture in the hardware.

Hi Koosi.

I have no idea what their intentions are with the machine once the project is finished, the only purpose it has now is to gather dust in the corner. I will ask them if they are willing to let someone take it of their hands.

Thank you for the advice Arthur, I will give them a call and find out if I they can help me.
