I've heard alot about Iburst's planned implementation of a 2mbs service, this is official right? I think it was on a Iburst official reply to something...
Anyway, how do you think this will be implemented?
Would it mean any chance of a price drop on the current 1mb options, it would be much appreciated and should have come already to stay competitive with ADSL etc.
Or maby all accounts would be upgraed in some way, more bandwidth or pushed up to 2mbs? Not very likely, anyway just looking for your comments, suggestions or maby news on the situation as I would like to consider some kind of upgrade coming in the future.

They did mention something about late next year. I would suspect that they would just simply increase max speed to 2mbps. I also heard WBS say they were looking into increasing cap size for free..... mayb. Time will tel I guess.

By the time they implement the 2mbps service I should already be in the UK soaking up all the bandwidth with my 24mbps line, or at the least a 8mbps line.

So you saying that they might just push everyone up to 2mbs, change the whole service basically. I thought they might just offer the service to those who want it, seeing as 2mbs would be very useless if youre on the 1 gig package especially. Cant wait till i get real acces like the UK, maby it will happen soon here... naah

Geldbom kom!

I think the 2Mbps service is a strategic move to counter Geldbom's 1Mbps service that *might* be coming to South Africa in the year 2020.

But WBS has never sent me one email *cough* about what they're doing, how's the service, what's happening at WBS, things to look forward to - so basically we'll have to read it on ITWeb when and if it happens....

Hehe - if this is true - imagine how fast you will eat up your 3GB cap

Exactly why I think they might give you the option of changing to 2mbs at a higher rate or at least give everyone increased cap size... That would be great! First really good change WBS would have made i think.
Jammer, maar wat presies is Geldbom?

Well I've heard the news from a few of the techies and the sales people... but hoping for the same pricing is going to be highly unlikely unless teleskum lose their Monopoly!!!

Uhm. I'm posting this from 1Mb/s DSL?

Thats what I thaught... thats why I asked what geldbom was supposed to be, obviously Telkom. well maby that will hurry Iburst up as they arent the fastest internet in SA anymore for home users

i am sure iburst would consider offering it as a service to those who wanted and i am also pretty sure they would increase the cap... erhm and i am sure it will be twice the price too :)

i have also heard a rumour that wbs want to increase the cap... but in all likelyhood... these things wont happen till broadband gets cheap... so in other words look at the doc and telkom.

Kinda like 1mbs is useless on the 500mb package???

Nah they will make an 'up to' 2mbs service for all.

The speed inforcement is overhaul and how can they guarantee anywhere near 2mbs to ppl like me who get max 600kbs, it will still all be dependant on location.

Wireless is all about location and signal strength. So onbviously it will be up to 2mbps.

I think they might just bump every1 up to 2mbps.....to have a new system in place to keep some ppl at 1mbps and the rest at 2mbps might be to much of a hassle. Exactly why they don't have 512kbps and 256kbps and stuff like that.

I wouldn't mind that system it's just that I'd prefer a higher cap any day, if they leave caps how they are and up everyone to 2mb I would kind of see it as if I'm loosing out on a price decrease!
I would prefer that we could choose or at least get an cap increase3 with the speed increase.. but we all know WBS doesn't really listen to what their customers want...

hehe, well at least if not a cap increase then make the throttled speed somewhere in the region of 192-256k. now that would be totally awesome as well. i really doubt that they would give away any capacity for free.

throttled at 256kb is pretty hardcore, that would get a whole load of "abusers" over from ADSL on Iburst! But it would be nice, however i cant say that i wouldnt totally go crazy with that, i'd probably end up an abuser as well so I dont see them doing that, they get enough "abusing" on 64kb...

hehe yeah i rate. though it would be beautiful. i shouldnt be complaining too much. I had 11Gig last month so i am already prob on the abuser list.. but i just cant resist DL of age of empires 3... too tempting.

I don't think that I've ever broken my cap by more than 100 meg, so i'm by no means an "abuser", but i see the term more and more. Why does using a service that you are paying for, make you an abuser?

It's such a South Africa "narrowband" term...:p

Just a thought..;)
