Iburst 2mb/s service

It has taken them a while eh?

The 2mbps modems have been launched by Kyocera though, so they probably could do it anytime. They were figuring out what to do about new devices last time I read.

ibust SA first need to figure out how to get most of the connections to 1Mbps never mind 2Mbps!!!

does iburst connect there towers through there own cables or telkoms backbone?

surely you mean iburst SA is figuring out wtf is the new device? and how to switch it on.

My internet is all great when I'm not capped but to be honest my so called throttled service sucks big time. When I'm capped I can hardly open any site (it takes over 3 mins to open my own blog or times out)..pretty useless IMO.

Scrap 2mbps...gimme more cap plox

The softcap gave me 90%+ of the 64kbps. Ok, last time I used it was in
June but still.

ya my 64k is also non existent... works for about 10 min and then nothing nada, peanuts, piece of #$%^

Don't you need a 2mbps modem to take advantage of 2mb?

The "new" modem is in fact "two modems in one" (two rx / tx) - so you can make use of it at present by purchasing a second hand modem and assigning it to your current account with iBurst (max 2 concurrent connections) and using a dual WAN router, see links below...

Note that the router can be purchased elsewhere for less than 40 percent of the price at which iBurst offers the router.

Dual WAN Router - http://www.iburst.co.za/default.aspx?link=hardware_routers
2 Mbps Modem - http://global.kyocera.com/prdct/telecom/office/iburst/2mutd.html

Sounds like they're trying to squeeze the last bit out of outdated technology.

There are a host of reasons:

Access speeds, lack of triple play services, coverage, spectrum availability, etc. Also, the Wi-Max service has as yet not been deployed successfully as an DSL alternative, however the marketing machine for the service has been working overtime. Currently it is still unproven technology in its infancy.

The drive to have the service deployed in SA even by the likes of MWEB (so as to be seen as an ISP an not a reseller) is an clear indication that most companies want to deploy this relatively cheaper service, however our government / ICASA has reserved the deployment for BEE companies only.

If you compare current Wi-Max technologies to iBurst then iBurst will win hands down.

In my opinion the Cellular giants with their "G" services are in a far better position to provide internet services to the masses should broadbrand prices fall considerably in future.
