iBurst Accounts Suspended Without Warning

um? sorry not the sheep herder... when did wbs say it?

They didn't actually SAY it. But then again, that post was from the ever paranoid LoneGunman... :D

Yeah, lets deconstruct what they're saying EXACTLY
"if subscribers used up their monthly allowance within a week, they should have realised they were abusing.."
= 'stupid customers'

describing your customers as - in effect - being able to bypass the company's own software somehow.. "WBS had no other option but to disconnect them because some users had found a way to bypass the 64Kbps throttle"
= "hackers" (ie:criminals)

'consciously abusing their monthly bandwidth allowance'
= "premeditated criminal intent" (to 'steal' extra bandwidth)

"the users were in a position to know they were going beyond acceptable limits"
= "deliberate premeditated criminal intent" (to 'steal' extra bandwidth)

"all the users that had been disconnected had been forewarned by the company via e-mail"
= A direct and provable lie. Check times of the emails sent by IBurst, against logfiles showing the time of disconnection..

i was going to let this go but now they have really put the knife in, outright flipping lies!!. I sent an email to that journalist, I suggest you do the same
Hi,

I was one of the “abusers” and one of the worst at that and I almost choked on my coffee when reading the article you posted with WBS’ response to alleged abuse.
The following quote is probably the one that seemed to stray furthest from the truth

Mtshali says about 90% of the company's customers only managed download speeds of up to 5Mbps, while the remainder – the alleged abusers – enjoyed speeds of more than 100Mbps

That is an outright lie. 5mbit speeds implies you could download at 640KB/s and 100mbit implies you can download at 12.5 Megabytes a second. Anyone that thinks even for a second that WBS offered more than 1024kbit/s to its customers is either lying or crazy.

Then theres the following gem

He accuses the suspended customers of being irresponsible, and says WBS had no other option but to disconnect them because some users had found a way to bypass the 64Kbps throttle.

When I found out I was suspended I called WBS and they told me the problem was that there was NO throttle in place, a mistake they made, so no one bypassed the throttle, there just wasn’t one in existence and when people carried on with their web habits, most oblivious they weren’t even throttled WBS noticed they had made a mistake and decided to take immediate action.

On the night of the 20th I was told by the Helpdesk manager Dylan Winkid that he was testing the bandwith manager they should have had since the 1st of April and that it would be in place by midnight.

As for the forewarning I was to have received, the email was sent at 12:56AM and my PC logs state the disconnection came at 3:52AM, and to top it off the email was sent to my WBS mailbox which I had NO ACCESS to after being suspended, I only got access to that email later that night after I had to pay the extortion fee to be reconnected.

This article doesn’t make me angry because of the complete lies within it but also because of the fact that it is the exact opposite of the apology a journalist posted on the MyADSL forum with permission of Dylan Winkik. It seem WBS is telling lies to the press to suppress the real nature of their incompetence.

And the contract states they may suspend users, but it also states that you may download up to your cap limit (3GB) at 1mbit and thereafter you will be throttled to 64k for the rest of the month, it doesn’t state any limits for how much you may download while throttled and it does not say “if we make a mistake and forget to throttle you, you will be suspended and forced to pay your way back on the network”

I will be very disappointed indeed if you leave these outright lies unchecked.

Acount Suspended

I just received an email saying: "Your iBurst account has been suspended due to your inordinate consumption of bandwidth." What happened to the throttled service?

And guess what, I can't reach them on at the helpdesk!!!

well this happened to me 2 days ago, the throttled service doesn't exist soemtimes and soemtimes it does, although WBS said to ITweb that it works 100% fine, but then again they liek to lie latly.

They want to to ffax a latter to them requesting bandwith, you will need to pay for that bandwith and then they will reconnect you, in a time that suits them

do you always put words in peoples mouths... or super analise things until they mean anything you want them to be. have you taking your pills today? because i heard they also have microphones in their modems.

In all fairness when i want to download stuff i just queue the stuff up and let it go on it way, i don't sit there mollycoddling the thing. I pay WBS to monitor my bandwidth and expect my speed to be down graded when i hit my cap. I don't like being chastised, especially when i'm the client.

Now contact [email protected] (Kaunda Chama) at IT Web, the writer of that story - and tell him that you're the hacker and criminal they're talking about - although you never started off like that...

Ok now this might sound out of line but come on,"Kaunda Chama" just basically wrote word for word what Mtshali told him.

Kaunda as a journalist is supposed to use some kind of common sense or at least some form of objective thought. For ****s sake this isin't SABC 2 Kaunda Chama, use your journalistic integrity and at least write an objective piece and QUESTION Mr Mtshali on why/how the throttle never worked.Don't just regurgitate what the "boss" said. There are 2 sides to a story.

Filling an article with the word "alleged" is a past time of the ignorant journalist.......the facts are there for Mr Chama to research, all he's doing is coming across more and more as some token put in place just because of the colour of his skin.

Sorry if this offends but that article just pissed me off

well yes exactly but now its your job because they limit what you can get while throttled, not once did they mention this before THIER mistake. I have defended this company time and time again and even made a post this morning along the lines of "ok they messed up, lets move on" but then they go put outright lies in that article, it makes me sick.

So if we all know they're lying and breaking the law what can we do? I need to do soemthing now I can't just let it slide because by the week they will just move the goal posts an inch more to suit them and eventully we're all screwed.

The thing that gets me is there are talented, caring and responsible peopel workign there who ALL get undermined by the idiots at the top. They sell an IT product with no idea about IT, and they make the stupidest remarks in articles, NO ONE HERE HAS EVER DOWNLOADED AT 100MBIT ON THIER IBURST PERIOD

And rightly you should. We should all get what we pay for. We should also be treated like customers. We should be treated like end users who consume a product that is supported by its supplier. When I buy a BMW M3 the thing is governed at 250kmh. It came that way, thats what BMW supports. I take my car out and belt it on the highway, I'm working on the premise that once i hit 250kmh it won't go any faster. Is it my problem that when i get to 250 that all i do i pass the speed? Hell no. Do i want to go faster? subjective (crazey people, yes, not so crazey people, no) What are my alternatives: tell BMW that the governing chip isn't working, drive as fast as i want. But the difference with this little analogy is that here BMW don't know you're going faster than you should be. WBS did, that they cannot deny. They did not deliver the product nor the restriction they claimed they would. To move the responsibility to the customer in hindsight is wrong. To paint everyone with the same brush is also wrong. I use my bandwidth how and when i feel like. When i signed up for i-burst i didn't sign up for a digital mom to lecture me about moderation. That article annoys me.

i dont think tis once off since some people that werent suspended on wednesday were suspended today, its actually gettign to the point where any good that the iBurst technology has has been crapped on by the WBS board.
