iBurst Accounts Suspended Without Warning

But don't the IBurst users community agree that the abusers of the network should be removed? These induviduals are ruining the network for the rest of the users, and as a temporary solution - isnt removing these people from the network a good move ?

Does anybody think so ?

Now - before you all dig into me - the only question that I am asking is if others agree with WBS's move. Nothing else.

:o Oooopsy daisy, thanks Fergus - it was wrong in the thread title as well - my bad! :D

Just heard on 5fm that:

"my internet freedom starts here: iburst.co.za..."

what a joke, I wonder if any WBS heads will roll for suspending customer accounts...?

No, I disagree (as one who has had low speeds, and hasn't hit his cap yet). WBS should have come up with a better plan.

no stoke I don't agree with the move, if they wanted to use those tactics then they should have told people how much they may download while throttled, took on less users (preventitive action) or had the resources to handle all the users and thier download habits.

I am above flaming just bcos I disagree, therefore I will refrain from the flame...:D

(sorry just in a weird mood today)

Stoke, to answer your question, my answer if no, I for one certainly do not agree with WBS' decision & action to suspend accounts of throttled customers - the fact that WBS' own throttling does not work is WBS' own fault - WBS controls their own network & bandwidth usage, therefore WBS is at fault for any excessive usage by any customer.

A good move would have been to have thoroughly tested their cap pre-launch and then none of this would have happened.

A slightly lesser move would have been to notify users when they had exceeded the excessive usage boundary (which no one knew) and kindly asked them to slow down a little with a friendly warning.

What they just did is probably the worst move they could have done from a customer service perspective. But then we all know they don't care about that anyway. *sigh*

Slim - what if your position is reversed ?

i.e. You could not download, and now suddenly that some users have been denied acces, you could.

Could you honestly say that you wouldn't be happier ?

The nub is that WBS were not entitled to make the move. I'm not sure too many Iburster would condone this, even if the upside is better speeds. WBS could have delivered better speeds anyway without breaching their contractual obligations.

Far more bandwidth was being used before the launch than after it, without any adverse effects on speeds.

WBS have crippled their own network to save money, that's all.

What the hell going on in South Africa. It looks to me that internet here is controlled like in the worst dictatory. What a shame...

Why wait till someones downloaded 90 gigs!!! They should have controlled the situation when he went over 10 gigs! Now they're blaming the users for their incompetence.

yeah ok if I was one of the users that had slow speeds and today got faster speeds I would be downloading and probably loving it however I would also see that WBS seem to think they have the power to make the rules as they go along and break legal binding contracts whenever they please, they I would ask whens it goin to happen to me. Anyways the problem is not/was not the power users and I guarantee you are not all getting 1mbit right now and I bet theres some people in the exact same position they were in yesterday as far as problems are concerned.

maybe WBS decide later today they would be more profitable with 512kbit connections and then tonight without warning they flip the switch and everyone is on 512, then next week they're like "hey we could be more profitable with 192k". where does it end?

I wouldn't be happier, because next month the roles might be reversed, and then you are on the losing end?? Having a connection to I-burst is a gamble.

Excellent point !!!!! Nail on the head.
Sorry for being the devils advocate, but I knew there had to be a greater-good reason behind all the shouting. Respect.

Wow. Exactly where I stand at the moment. Well put.

Another (minor) issue!!

Let's say WBS were within their rights to do this (YEAH RIGHT).

Wouldn't you think they could have handled it a bit more professional? Ie. most users received a mail AFTER they were disconnected?? This means they weren't able to receive mail.

ALSO, they should have known that alot of myADSL users were to be affected. So they deliberately kept from making this public.

H$ll, they propably even told Shaun to leave this forum, as we represent the baddies, the bandwidth hogs!!

One thing is sure, I WILL NEVER USE WBS FOR ANY SERVICES not should anyone else. THEY WILL SCREW YOU!!

I will from now on inform everyone I know of WBS' attitude and warn them against using their products.

This is the best thing you could possibly do. Word of mouth, especially in the IT industry is very powerful. Ask Sentech.

Absolutely. My web site has already been updated...

I feel the need to go on record and say that anything I say today about the Account Suspensions is totally subjective [as an overpaying customer] and I find it impossible to remain objective about all this as a moderator.

WBS really have crossed over the line into complete & utter disaster/failure territory (IMO), totally unprofessional on WBS' part.

I very strongly disagree with WBS move. I still have difficulty in understanding how anyone can possibly support it. Said before, will say again: we use what they give us. Even if we are hogs/abusers/bastards of some description, this is completely irrelevant. We have the right to the service they offered us which *does* allow us to stay on 24/7 downloading from p2p at 64kb if we want to. If they wish to stop offering this service they must refund us for financial and other losses brought about by their false advertising.
