iBurst blocking P2P now?

I'm sick of dealing with this incompetent company and willing to give another company (even telkom) a try

My sentiments exactly. I e-mailed them about this **** they told me it's my MTU so I told them to f**k off

This looks like it is truly the "end of the road" for me with iburst, as they are making all the wrong changes, next step for me I think is to go for the "do Broadband level 3 package" no contract, as it seems to be reasonably price.

It's almost like the Transport department here focusing solely on ways to lessen the amount of cars on the road by saying no car can have less than one person in it and not looking to create larger highways or other viable transportation methods. It may work in the short term, but it is to totally run away from a long term solution.

Yeah, all those driverless cars should get off the roads right now! :D

As for me, (when my contract expires of course), I'll be going for MTN HSDPA 2GB. Fixed line Internet just doesn't do it for me. I need the mobility of a fast wireless connection. It will feel like a downgrade if I switch to ADSL. WiMax maybe?

Hopefully iBurst will pull up their socks before my contract expires, otherwise they'll lose yet another customer next year.

I have to admit that I liked the concept of being able to take my modem with me almost anywhere. but that sure didn't outweigh the relative benefit of do3 and a 30 gig local account.

I've come to the conclusion that wireless just does not cut it here in sa right now, maybe after a year or 5 the various providers might have a better network with QUALIFIED staff that know what they're doing running the show.

MTN HSDPA also has problems so don't think it's all plain sailing with them or vodacom either.

In the meantime there is no harm in trying something different CONTRACT FREE.

What sort of waiting time is there for that package if you already have a line that supports ADSL?

it took them 10 days to convert my analogue to adsl on self install

Thanks for the info, at least now I can try to work on +_ that time, I'll have to stay with iburst till August as I want to see if ICASA approves of the lower payment mentioned on the "do" site, or will existing "do" customers also get the rate reduced, if so then I guess there is no point in waiting.

I'm on a month to month do package so I don't see how or why they wouldn't give me the price reduction. especially as i am sure they will give me the price increase on the line rental.

I'm sure existing customers will also get the rate reduction, they have in all other cases. If you do get ADSL just make sure you do a self install, you get a free modem, don't pay the installation fee and its generally faster too.

Thanks for the replies milomak and Syndyre, right now this is in ibursts "hands" so to speak, by that I mean if they decide to just cut us off after exceeding our cap and by how much they consider a reasonable limit before they cut the connection.

All of us on the "Pro" packages pay more than the "Play" packages so we are therefore entitled to the 64kbps after we reach our cap, if their bw monitor "screws up" thats their problem and they should sort it out and not penalize their "Pro" customers.

I was downloading @ 150kb/s from Limewire today (Vodacom HSDPA with Huawei E220 modem) and wanted to download more at home with my 'zippy' iBurst connection. Guess what? 1kb/s is max with iBurst on Limewire - the faakers have blocked Limewire!!!:sick:

Well, I've cancelled my iBurst (effective 30 June 2007 - yay!) and CANNOT wait to play full-time with my E220 modem!!!

See ya, iBurst. :p

Lol, enjoy those aftercap MB prices :D

No, I'm on prepaid. No scary surprises for me. ;)

*Mind you, last month I only used 500MB of my 2GB package!

Got a few sms'es from Vodacom to tell me that I should start using my bandwidth. :)

Iburst Confirms They Are Blocking P2p

I spoke to Henry this morning and he confirmed that Iburst are blocking p2p. He defended this by saying that it was part of an international trend by ISPs to do so. He further said that they were entitled to do so as an unshaped account was never part of the offering in the first place.

I have stopped paying them and have recommended that they sue me.

2GB is a lot if you can't download anything.
