The past few days it has been impossible to connect to any P2P service, even with Tor and Privoxy running in the background! Ares is unable to connect, LimeWire times out and so does eMule. This is insane. At first they promised us only a "throttled P2P service", yet now they seem to block it completely?

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yes it looks like it's time to move on, one or two more months should be enough to see what new ISP offers are out there that will suit my needs.

This might be worth a look at once it proves itself:

Why do you see it as a better option than ADSL? Its essentially being offered at the same price by the same company.

I don't, all I said was "This might be worth a look at" since I'd prefer it to be mobile or at least be able to take it to another house/building whereas ADSL is "fixed" to one building, but if push comes to shove then I guess ADSL will do.

And since iBurst has over the months/years proved to be a useless company and this year there seem to be quite a few new ISP offerings, I feel it is maybe time to move on to something new as long as there are no contracts involved.

it's baffling how iBurst continue to position themselves

I don't think Wimax really is mobile, my impression is if you move you'd have to get it reinstalled so in practice its not that different to ADSL. Could be wrong though. IBurst definitely does seem to be worse than useless though.

Believe it or not, there are people out there who don't use torrents/p2p applications.

There are people out there who don't eat meat. But that's not a very good argument for an enforrced vegetarian diet.

I've reached the stage where I'll except a hard cap at 3GB ADSL, so I don't expect to be with iburst too much longer, maybe 2 or 3 months while waiting to see what other offers are out there.

I'll leave the heavy downloading to the others in my group so I won't lose out on too much anyway, besides I'm sick of dealing with this incompetent company and willing to give another company (even telkom) a try as long as it's month to month.

None of my downloading has been torrents/P2P so that does not affect me, it's the "cutting off" and incompetence of the company that has now finally made me decide that iburst is not going to work out for me.

It seems we agree on something yet again MrH. :D I admit it, this company is getting on my nerves a bit. Blocking p2p however takes the cake. The only problem here is that I can't leave iBurst until August 2008. :(

I have huge issues over C&C3 not being able to play because it uses p2p for net play, lucky I can VPN play on it, but it's more bandwidth intensive

Hmmm, been "stuck" with them for another year+ is not so good, but hopefully they will make some positive changes in the meantime.

I'll use my modem as a paperweight in the near future and maybe if things get a lot better with the company I'll come back.

i'm not naive enough to think that's the case. imo they are looking for the type of internet user that will fast die away. one that uses broadband-like services as if it were dial-up. But yet the cost does not compensate for that.

They might get away with it now, but as time passes people will learn to research choices. And they will find themselves in a difficult position.

EDIT: Essentially my guess is they find their network can lo longer cope. So they decide to limit what you can do on it.

It's almost like the Transport department here focusing solely on ways to lessen the amount of cars on the road by saying no car can have less than one person in it and not looking to create larger highways or other viable transportation methods. It may work in the short term, but it is to totally run away from a long term solution.

EDIT2: iBurst must believe that the only way to download huge amounts and thus congest the network is via torrents and p2p. Yet if you block people who want to use torrent and p2p, they will look for alternative measures. They already found out about p2p and torrents so i would guess they would be willing to find out other methods.

You might be able to get off early if you just throw this in their faces. Say you signed up to use P2P and for the softcap.

If they block P2P and limit the softcap you don't want to be on the contract anymore. Your contract said nothing about that so is it not maybe void?

I remember some people getting off their contracts a long time ago for similar reasons....
