Just received a call from iBurst warning me that i will be hard capped the rest of the month for excessive usage.

I am on one of the pro packages and the way I understand it once I reach my cap Iburst will throttle my connection for the rest of the month to a lower speed. Now I basically leave my computer running the whole time downloading stuff. Every once in a while when the connection is reset it starts to download at full speed. Surely I cannot be hold responsible for this?

Anybody else had a similar experience?

How much bandwidth do you use? cause I also download a lot but have never been told I've been using too much

That is a bit much, I mean they do have to pay for it, well done though :D
Only the 20th.

Theres probably some clause in their terms and agreements somewhere, anyone looked? Most ISPs have an exessive usage policy even if they don't need it.

Thats their problem, tell them to fix their bandwidth monitor.

40GB is not bad even though I had it over 60GB at one stage without any calls from iBurst.
I also just line up my downloads and let it run when I'm busy with work or other stuff.

hmm..so its a lot more than me, i think most ive gotten out of my 1gig account was 30 gigs but that was when torrents worked. I run out of things to download now a days :P

I've also run out of things to download and will probably have a BW carry over this month.:p

The bastards cut me off a few hours ago for this same reason, not even a warning.

This completely destroys the point of the soft cap....uggggh.

How much did you have downloaded before you got cut off?

That's BS
There is/was no policy when I signed the contract... they cannot change a policy contract can they? if so I'm shooting over to uncapped 384 dsl in September

This seems they are following Sentech.... Sentech did the same about 1.5 years ago..... this sucks...

Going by the 1st post in this thread it seems they are hard capping at around 40GB, thats why I asked Basjohn at what GB did they cut him off.

They also suspended my account last night about 7H30. Tech support said that I must call the Accounts Department today between 8H00 and 17H00. The reason was excessive usage. I will give them a call later on today. I looked at the Terms and Conditions on their website and does not see anything that authorizes them to suspend my account for excessive usage. This is despicable.

Just spoke to their accounts department and the person I spoke to could not assist me. It is apparently the first time ever she saw this reason for an account suspension. She promised to find out who can assist me and come back to me.

So iBurst is implementing things and not even informing their staff? Anybody from iBurst out there that cares to comment?

Thats bs, it's up to them to control their bandwidth monitor and it's not the customers problem if they can't get it to work properly.:(

If they suspend my account I'll suspend payment completely and move onto ADSL.

I feel sorry for all the new suckers (customers) that have just signed up for the 24 month contract, with luck they'll be the last which will mean iburst will vanish in the not so distant future.

Well I for one am happy that someone on a 1GIG account has been capped after hitting 30GB! To me, guys that do this are just abusers. The throttled service is meant to allow users to limp along for the last few days of the month and "get by", not to download as much as they possibly can just to "show them" (shakes fist in the general direction of nearest iBurst tower) when all you are actually doing is screwing up the experience for the hundreds of other users out there. I mean, sure get to 2GB on a 1GB account but to get 30 times you limit is just plain greedy! These are probably the same guys who ride in the emergency lane when there is a car accident and then try to shove their way into the traffic up ahead. Let's try to be considerate both of other users and of companies trying to make a living.

Surely its not the amount of GB downloaded rather the sheer number of individual connections that slow down base stations?

Both have an impact on speeds. If you have hundreds of users all using a little or a few users using a lot, the impact will be similar. There is a limit to the backhaul size and the MORE users pulling data, the slower things get. So if everyone decided to do streaming downloads when on the throttled service, speeds would be TERRIBLE for all...
