iBurst - warning for excessive usage

Well ill see, ill download as much as I can around the 28th and see when I get cut off.

I will then log on with GPRS and post how much I had done before I got cut off! ;)

Well I for one am happy that someone on a 1GIG account has been capped after hitting 30GB! To me, guys that do this are just abusers. The throttled service is meant to allow users to limp along for the last few days of the month and "get by", not to download as much as they possibly can just to "show them" (shakes fist in the general direction of nearest iBurst tower) when all you are actually doing is screwing up the experience for the hundreds of other users out there. I mean, sure get to 2GB on a 1GB account but to get 30 times you limit is just plain greedy! These are probably the same guys who ride in the emergency lane when there is a car accident and then try to shove their way into the traffic up ahead. Let's try to be considerate both of other users and of companies trying to make a living.
you are comparing bandwidth usage to driving where it's life threating and dangerous...

ohh yaa my inet is dangerous it's gonna give me 2000000000000000000000 trojans that will burn, scar, kill me! eek!

You seriously need to understand in our unfortunately ****ing country you rule with money! hell if I had 10 billion rand to blow I would go build my own undersea cable and charge everyone for usage so that I can get 100billion returns... How is overcharging users in COMMUNICATIONS justifiable by Telkom, IBurst, Vodacom, MTN, Cell C? Why can users in Hong Kong pay R500 for a UNCAPPED 100Mbps line where we pay over R5000 for a UP TO (not gurauanteed) 4Mbps Uncapped line.

Let me use your Analogy, Would you pay R5000 for a toll gate (every month) that will get you from home to work on a possible 4 lane road - with a guarenteed of 1/2 a lane to be useable???

Counter arguement:

You need an operation so you go into hospital, the doctor slips during the operation and you start bleeding more than usual. Seeing as your operation only covers 1lt of blood, as soon as you go over the doctor has full right not to give you more blood.

Ultimately it's up to iBurst to make sure things run as they should, not the end-user. It's poor and disrespectful business blaming your clients for your problems/mistakes. iBurst needs a real business wakeup call on how to treat customers, and but the sounds of it, it's own staff.

It should revamp it's model instead of this R49 for 40mb crap. The throttled account is perhaps the ONLY reason serious internet users are still on iBurst. It's was (and still is) the marketing model that attracts people. People want P2P? Offer a P2P access for an extra R100... instead of fighting (and blaming) the customer, find a way to make them happy while making money.

These F***** cut me off as well, and I do not even think that I have passed 30GB!

According to me they cancelled the agreement with me and stopped delivering the service. Thank God!!! I'm out of the contract with them!!:D

Received an e-mail from them this morning:

Dear Mr <excessive user>

In the past, iBurst hasn't capped subscribers for on-net data usage.

Capping limit rules have always existed, however. We now have the tools to enforce these rules and will implement limits to ensure that certain subscribers do not use excessive amounts of data and congest the network.

Please note that your service will be reactivated on the 1st July 2007. Should you like to chat to me further, you may do so on the numbers below.

Kind regards

My response:

Good morning

With all due respect the terms and conditions stipulated on your web site do not entitle you to effect hard capping on the pro packages.

I demand that you provide me with your excessive usage policy as well as the relevant terms of conditions to give you the legal right to effect hard capping. I also demand that you provide evidence that we have a valid agreement in place that entitles you to effect such hard capping.

As far as I am concerned you are only entitled to throttle my account once I exceeded the 1.5 GB cap. If for some reason your throttling software is not able to do this I demand you fix it as it is part of the agreement that I have in place with iBurst.

The actions of iBurst in this matter are UNLAWFUL as well as despicable. You don’t even have the decency to communicate with your clients before making one sided changes to your usage policy. Secondly you cannot even provide such policy when communicating with your clients.

Thus please provide me with the following or immediately reactivate my account:

1. Excessive usage policy.
2. Terms of Conditions of usage that entitles you to effect hard capping on the pro packages.

Further I suggest you fix your throttling software/hardware as it should be working and in place in terms of the current subscriber agreement.

Regards

Me too but I'm guessing the response will be silence. Just get everything in writing. :D

They will just ignore it... it's like Sentech MyWireless all over again :( Take them to the small claims court.

Of course there was always something, the article this morning on MyADSL confirmed that.

Funny though, they only hardcapped 8 users out of 40000 and it looks like almost all of those are of these forums :D

oh gee 8 people using DC++ which is a internal connection on iburst gets hard capped... what a ****ty service Iburst provides... it's not even downloading from international links...

iBurst can't even see how much of a joke they look like when they say 8 people can have that type of impact on their network.

I don't think everyone is using DC++ and they definitely aren't only using DC++. You still get your 8kb international while downloading from DC++, why wouldn't you make use of that?

Looks like a sign of things to come.

I suppose next month they will look at the 20gb bracket, then 10gb then 5gb.

One day you will wake up and find that they cap you when you go 500mb over limit

That's such crap.. I also manage to get to about 40GB p/month. PC runs 24-7.

They quite lucky they haven'y called me yet ;)
