iBurst Compatible Hardware

Settled for the Billion 7402GXL to share my Iburst USB modem in the house.. works very well.. has a IBURST tick box in the firmware to activate it.

Picked up the TL-R470T+ this morning, very nice and simple to get hooked up.

I would recommend this to anyone looking to hook up 2 or more iburst 1mb / 2mb desktop modems.

Thats great to hear, we run one at our office with two Neotel lines, what we found interesting is that each line is 5mbit so it shares the load between the two lines, but we've noticed that sometimes the line speed goes over 5mbit, peaks at nearly 8mbit, when testing the lines individually they never exceed 5mbit. Let me know if you do some testing if your findings are the same.

Onto the next question.

I need a 4 way splitter for an omni, I have a 2 way splitter but thats not going to help me here.

Does a 4 way splitter really have to cost R 798.25 ex vat?
That is pretty insane.

Anyone know where to find a cheaper one?

We have some splitters at our office laying around, can definitely do a better price, must just check if we have a 4-way.

At that price, get another omni and 2-way splitter rather!

Not necessarily, if the omni has a proprietary connector like Huawei, iBurst, Novatel etc... they can be pretty pricey, if its not one of those it'll probably be SMA which would then require a pigtail to the omni. Either way I think the price difference would be marginal.

A point to consider with splitters as well is that there are substantial losses.

Getting an omni directly from iBurst isn't that expensive (R399).

So would it be better to use a separate omni?

It really does depend on the installation, sometimes it makes sense to use splitters for example if you have say 8 premicells connected to your PBX, it would make sense to have only one or outdoor antenna's going into one or two splitters.

In this case though, we're talking about an iBurst user with two Dark Knights and a Silver Surfer, which require four antenna connections in total (Dark Knights one each, Silver Surfer two).
Either way I think the price difference would be marginal.
Which is why I suggested instead of replacing his existing 2-way splitter with a 4-way splitter, rather look at getting a second omni and another 2-way splitter. In future he has the option of moving one omni and one splitter to a different location.

Get a RB751 from scoop for R460 ex and you will be sorted. The most powerfull wireless router. This little device has a 1Watt radio card with a 2.5dbi built in antenna plus you can attatch a external antenna
