IBurst Doubts

Well after a bunch of investigating, I decided to drop the whole IBurst idea. Basically I cannot see the value proposition in their solution. You are expected to pay a set up fee of about R3500 to get a service that will hopefully, on a good day be almost comparable to Telkoms ADSL? Oh and you save about R100 a month.

I guess this is a solution for people who can't get ADSL. Only people in their coverage area pretty much CAN get ADSL.

The minds of marketing people will ever be unfathomable to me.

Well I have had iburst for a week now and am impressed. Local speeds are amazing 100-120KB/s. International 25-35KB/s. But what has really suprised me is stable ping to international sites which equall or better my ISDN. I am not talking gaming pings realistically to game(fps) international u need an unshaped telkom acc and lots of money!! I use voip a lot (firefly) and it work very well to New Zealand. I think what will make or break iburst is what happens when you are capped. If they go the telkom route of a basically no international access unless you buy more bandwidth then go with adsl. If however they use the New Zealand model where when you are capped you get consistent 64k nat and internat access then i would reconsider iburst seriously. Time will tell.
