iBurst Drivers for uBuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

hey folks,

Has anyone managed to get a PCMCIA iBurst modem to work under ubuntu 9.10 (karmic koala) ?

If so, some directions would be very much appreciated.

[The only driver I can find, posted by Regardt van der Vyfer, causes a kernel panic, and is thus obviously not quite satisfactory.]

I've made completely unauthorized changes to ibdriver 1.3.4 for compilation on kernel 2.6.31. I know nothing about the driver internals. I merely made some trivial changes to hook the driver into the new kernel. It works for me on both 32 and 64-bit karmic. I've tested pcmcia, but USB should work too.

sudo make install
Remember to create /etc/modprobe.d/iburst.conf - add the line: options ib-net ifname="nas-ib"

pppoeconf should get you going

I've tried the new driver and steps you posted and still have no luck.

Well, there's patches on the ibdrivers site and elsewhere. USB still seems to have a few issues. Hope to get a loan unit next week from iBurst for testing.

Your patch is more elegant tho since it actually accomodates older and newer kernels in one quite nicely.

Stephan, sorry, but I can't really help, as I don't have a USB modem. I am surprised that there are issues, as the patch to both the pcmcia and usb specific modules are literally a single line of code each.

regardtv, I decided to roll my own patch after trying various patches found online. Some of them would not compile the pcmcia module, while at least one other caused a kernel panic.
Also be careful when using older kernels with this version. While I started with the good intention of making it backward compatible, I did not follow through and actually test against older kernels.

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

Hey Monad is your solution compatible with Ubuntu 10.04?I see ther kernel is 2.6.32 not *31. I tried it all seemed fine but instead of ib0 I get ib. and it repeatedly tells me:

Can you offer any help?
