iBurst Frequently Asked Questions: NEW USERS. READ HERE.

Hi guys,
Sorry for a stupid question, which I'm sure has been asked before...
I'm sure, while browsing the forums a while ago, I noticed one (or more) thread that shows what the IP, & DNS settings of the LAN connection to desktop modem should be. And how to set the MTU settings to 1352?
I just can't find it now.
Would reeaaly be glad if yall could throw this dog a bone :-)
 
The DNS settings are : Cape Town (if your in CPT use this as primary) 196.46.70.1

And JHB 196.30.31.193 (this would be secondary if you are in CPT, and visa versa if in JHB)

The IP should be 192.168.250.1 if that is the connection which goes directly to the UTx. If its going through a router then leave the IP alone.

You can set the MTU through a small app called Dr.TCP which you can find easily no the net. Set the Dial-up MTU value to 1352.
 
Hey thanx a lot EHV! This is JHB (Riverclub, Sandton)
The modem seems to prefer Bryanston tower, as the 'best of the worst'.
Using all uTracestar, I see all visible towers ar load 3, and description of crappy signal.
This Bryanston tower shows very good signal, pity about the load!
Anybody know if there are more towers due soon???
Iburst have probably grown too fast here for towers to keep up.... all telkoms fault - "no ADSL ports in the area" :mad:
 
I have a few questions about getting iBurst for my needs. Firstly if any one knows if iBurst can to used to trade over the internet without getting the slightest delay. And how good it is for gaming.
 
Trade over the internet? I don't really know what you mean... bu the delay would depend on your signal, I would assume that it will have some delay though.
Are you used to something does does this "trading" without delay? Because iBurst should have a bit more delay than ADSL (depends on signal once again)and less than dial-up.

For gaming, it is fine for RPGs, MMORPGS, that kind of stuff. For FPS games, it can work but you need a good connection. Basically depends what you want to play, at what time (worse during the day) and most importantly your signal and tower load.

Post in what area you are and im sure people in here can tell you what the towers in that area are like.

Trading? not sure, but there won't be a big difference between adsl and iburst if you have a good signal.

Gaming, depends what you want to play. Like EKV said, will work good with RPG's MMORPG's. I could play Guild Wars reasonably, getting lag with CoH (now i have to purchase the antenna :( ), and wouldn't even bother with FPS's.

Just depends on your latency. Mine's the worst I know, about 800 to google.com.
 
OK thanks. For trading i cant really explain, its trading shares/futures on the net and requires no delay at all, if someone was in the business world they could understand better, because i am asking for someone else
 
Hi Guys i am hoping somone might be able to help me on this problem. I have a ADSL Router (gift from work) that i want to use to handle my Iburst connection sharing the model number is DG834G the first version of this router made by NETGEAR, basically what i want to know is if this router will be able to manage my IBurst connectivity or am i just waisting my time. The main reason for going this way is the easy of the DHCP services that the router supplies, it makes my networking life a breeze. I have tried running the Setup Wizard but it does not recognize the modem on the ethernet ports.


The Router offers PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) as an connection opption

Additional Information that i need to supply is a as follows
USERNAME - Got That
PSWD - Got That
Service Name - ???

And that is about it

Any help in this regard will be much appreciated.

Not entirely true, I am on iburst
& have multiple websites and use
smtp.mywebsite.com as my outbound mail server

Of course it took a little arranging...

Short answer is "NO" you can't but you can try selling it at a reduced price to another sucker.:sick:
 
Watch the classifieds

Some very good iBurst modems, flat panel antenna, Hi-gain Jagi and 8 or 9 or 11 m sectional masts will be listed. This is redundant equipment because of at least 2 cancellations brought about by iBurst's discrimination against m2m clients. How many more cancellations are there?

WHAt are you talking about man?? latency is always important in gaming, unless youre playing chess.

Iburst doesn't seem promising, i'm glad i have HSDPA.:cool:
 
iBurst bashing

... you know how you feel when you've had a big meal ? Iburst :(

Anyway, people seem to have this thing with iBurst. I admit that they do have their downside, but it's still cheaper to use them than Vodacom's 3G, it's of reasonable speed... I have 50% signal strength at the moment and my latency to a server in JHB is 403ms... it's not that bad, especially when you consider it's a wireless connection.

If the signal is bad, get an extension antenna... I'm happy with iBurst.

:)

Besides... iBurst will die soon... the technology isn't really built to be expanded upon (unless you use multiple modems) and 3G has already overtaken it by 7 times overseas and 3.6 times here. 3G will become cheaper and iBurst will become like pagers, a thing of the past.

Works well now though.
