iBurst-ing the landline bubble

Calls from Telkom landlines to iBurst 087 720 to 722 numbers are more expensive than to most of the other Voip providers.

Telkom Local (0-50km) 0.521 0.594 0.00556 0.00634 0.521 0.594 0.00249 0.00284

The standard time charge for Telkom to Telkom calls is 38c/min (0.00634X60) and 17c/min (0.00284X60) in Callmore time. Calls from Telkom to WBS 087 numbers cost 107c/min in ST (0.01786X60) and 66c/min in CT (0.01102X60). Telkom calls to Cybersmart Voip numbers for example only cost 51c/min (0.00855X60) at any time.

does "sound" good but it has to be good and not just sound good. There is no point if it cost more, ok if there is no alternative then by all means.telkom still controls the pie bucket.

Mtshali said: “A phone call to New York will cost you less than what you currently pay to call Soweto, and the installation is fast.”

I wonder how many of the Sowetans call New York regularly.

The call to Soweto will most probably still be ultra expensive where it is actually supposed to be free.

Oh joy - international calls are becoming cheaper while local calls remain the same... sounds like Telkom to me.
At least it will help emigration ;)

Did you know in Africa terms "Gearing up" takes 3 years.

Put THAT in ur little journal Mr journalist.

The company, which had only about 40 employees last year, now employs 220 people.

Most of whom are incapable of answering an e-mail or able to explain the simplest query relating to the product. Let's not even get started on the excuse for an accounts department.

“We use any technology to get the service to the customer,” Mtshali said. “People don’t really care what the technology is, exactly, as long as we give them a quality product or service,”

What service exactly Mr Mtshali? It is not the people that do not care, but WBS, as the apparent service offered by yourselves is shocking to say the least. As for a quality product? Well, the jury is still out on that.

Quite apart from the fact that calls are actually more expensive for the average user, it's a pity that the webphone doesn't actually work, for all intents and purposes. The iBurst technology just isn't built to support voice.

Fortunately, I finally managed to outmanoeuvre iBurst's "customer service" and escape their clutches earlier this year, and have been much happier since.

They barely manage to offer proper internet services as it is, so how on earth do they intend on offering VoIP?

Surely they should rather focus on their current issues before embarking on creating a whole bunch more

How many of the 60K customers are actually happy to be on a 40MB p/m package? Since that package was launched I hardly every go above 256kb/s connection.

Agreed with most comments. This company is not ethical. They are money hungry who rip off their customers. How are they going to offer a VoIP service over such a poor Internet Service? Even over ADSL which is a far more reliable service with larger guarantee than Iburst VoIP can be a problem.

Please do not use this company. They are incompetent. Do not be another victim of their pretty orange adverts. Because thats as good as it gets!
