Surely the University could get uncapped and setup normal WiFi hotspots? There would virtually be no cost to the students.

If anyone is idiotic enough to sign up for that they desirve whats coming to them. As a signup bonus you get 30mb... Thats NOTHING!

30mb doesn't even cover the bloody spam mails we get a month. R1000 for startup is a lot less than I needed to pay to start up but thats still crazy. Iburst has completely lost it. Fail iburst.... fail...

The university access rate is not restricted to after-hours.

It is R100 for 5 GB if sites on the TENET network are accessed.

well.. i might be wrong but you can connect to the WUG in stellenbosch (I know theres a site on Papegaaiberg) and the VPN into the university network (once you tell them to register your mac).
gives you R0 cost of connecting to university services like e-mail, webct etc. think you can even use your Inetkey to access the internet at university rates then.
