iBurst Month 2 Month Contracts

I have made up my mind, seeing that I am on a 3Gig month-to-month iBurst package, and does not get the same as a 3Gig 24 month contract, that I'm ending my business with iBurst.

I have just spoken to Vodacom Data Helpdesk and was informed of their Data Messenger Plus package at R85.00 for 40mb including a free USB Modem with auto 3G & HSDPA, Edge and GPRS/GSM switcher, Not like the other Modems that use different profiles for each connection. I can decide How much I would like to sign up for, 250mg, 500mg depending on my monthly usage, and can top-up if I need more. Seeing that I don't need 3Gig every month and loosing out bigdeal with iBurst 3Gig, I rather pay more for a service and buy what I need for the month. At this satge of the game I am loosing out a lot with iBurst, seeing that they will not carry over my unused Mbs/Gigs. So that is the end of another era for me.

Carry over

At this stage of the game I am losing out a lot with iBurst, seeing that they will not carry over my unused Mbs/Gigs.

They do carry over on the m2m deals.

This is the only good thing to come out of the fantastic new deal for m2m.

Not enough - cancellation is done.

Have they since made an announcement about m2m getting carry over of unused B/W? Cause the original statements were related to 12,36,24 month contract users

m2m do carry over bandwidth..... We just don't get the free bandwidth that contracts get.

I installed my ADSL router last night (5 minutes... easier than iBurst) and I signed up with an ISP today so if it works properly when I get home I am going to have a iBurst UTD for sale if anyone wants it :D....

Since I have a landline already ADSL actually worked out cheaper.

Don't sell that UTD off until your ADSL is working 100% :D

Interesting to hear that, in this case, ADSL works out cheaper than iBurst.

What are the price differences, and caps?

Its R245 for 384kb ADSL, which is fast enough for most browsing, streaming and obviously for getting through your cap :/
It's only R199 if you take it through Closer plan 4, that is if you need Closer plan 3 already.

The caps come in many different options because of all the ISPs. Basically 3 gigs is R180, 5 gigs R290. Harcapped though, IS options are similar but with 30 gigs of local cap afterwards. Pay as you go is around R70 per gig.

Give them a chance as they also never had so many unhappy customers complaining

Uh... I recall several incidents back in 2005 when I just got iBurst... lots and lots and lots of very pissed off people.

Sorry ole chap, this company gets no mercy from me. I will grind them to the bitter end, the motherfscking greedy bastards deserve it!!!!!

I must still be on contract status then, because I have extra bandwidth.

To clarify - I have completed my 2yr contract, and continue on a month-2-month basis (G3@R599).

GM is on the Closer package, Option 4
This is ADSL at 384 Mbps + Call answer + line costs + 1000 free minutes standard time + unlimited phone use callmore time + per second billing for calls to cell phones. Cost R499 + ISP charges.

I am on the Closer package, Option 5.
ADSL at 4096 + the other stuff + Telkom ISP 3gig = R699 + R249 = ±R950.

My iBurst was R611 + My phone @ ±R800 = ±R1411.

For me, the Telkom package is a real cost saver.

I have had my ADSL/phone circuit checked and repaired/tuned from exchange to wall jack. I have constant download speeds of 434 KB/Sec.

My ADSL is more reliable and constant that my iBurst has been recently. It is simply a problem caused by having too many subscribers per base station.

The iBurst speed test done at 10:54 gave 396/218 kbps. 8m mast + Radiant Yagi directed at Illovo BS. -70db signal strength.

My ADSL gave 434MB/Sec

I was going to keep iBurst as i-Go Lite for backup purposes, but after the free bandwidth debacle for the m2m subscribers, I concluded that iBurst did not want me as a client and cancelled my account. It will become inactive on 31 March.

Some interesting speeds there :p

With those Telkom packages, it looks like the most saving comes from your phone line and not your internet. Too bad Telkom can do that...

Not complaining

With those Telkom packages, it looks like the most saving comes from your phone line and not your internet. Too bad Telkom can do that...

This is a method of expanding Telkom's ADSL reach (I hesitate to use the term "penetration") and consequently grow their numbers of ADSL users.

Below is the "loss leader" - if you can call the discounting a loss when measured against the immoral profits made by their overcharging for everything. Telkom is merely giving away a little and still robbing us.
Giving away 1000 minutes of standard time for local and long distance calls.
Giving away all callmore time and restricting calls to 1 hour or less.
Charging calls to cell phones at per second rates.

The R699 I pay for Closer Option 5 is:
Line rental....87.65
Call answer.....8.64
ADSL 1024.....452.63
Option 5.......64.24
..............613.16
VAT............85.84
..............699.00

This makes it clear that no calls are being charged for. Any calls in standard time beyond 1000 minutes will be charged for.

One can only hope that this will remain in place until there are further reductions given on the ADSL rates.

ADSL installed and working 100%. iBurst have been notified of my cancellation.

My previous Telkom bills have averaged R550 - R600 p/m. Now with Closer 4 my bill will be R500 plus R72 for 1Gb bandwidth.

I was on a baby contract with iBurst for R299 p/m

Now total = R572
Previous = R550 + R300 = R850

I also now have double the bandwidth I had before and a more stable line for Skype and Gaming.

This should be no place to actually resolve these issues. Unfortunately direct contact with iBurst does not help. So here is my piece ....

Also on a month to month contract and have been for a long time. I have lived through many iBurst stuff ups.

a) My account was frozen twice due to their wonderful accounts department getting it wrong.
b) I have personally enlightened iBurst management (Sashan) about their 1GB offering 22H00 in the evening, after complaining to him regarding a 3kbs speed. He phoned back - his gripe was how I got his mobile telephone number, whereupon I congratulated him. This was the first returned call I ever had from iBurst, despite numerous complaints regarding my speed. (Thus the Centurion upgrade a year back after a threat of taking iBurst to the consumer council). iBurst personnel monitoring this thread may verify this incident with Sashan!
c) I have had many incidences of their help desk not being able to help with a "we have no problems" approach. They all later turned out to be iBurst issues.
d) I have been forced to use an overseas mail server for mail stability.
e) I have seen my speed fluctuating between excellent and virtually non-existsent at times, despite my UTD being in a fixed position.
f) I have lost business due to iBurst outages (I made it clear my use was business orientated prior to purchasing and was assured it meets my requirements).
etc etc

Thanks for the slap iBurst. You make your stance extremely clear. I know what to do and have already started doing so....

Consider:
iBurst vs Vodacom vs Telkom :
iBurst 3G
Initially no map was available on iBurst (or wbs.co.za as it was then). My signal was tested and was excellent. I signed up.
The first version of your map show I had "weak coverage". The current version shows none. Uhmmm - and it shows the area as Tshwane (are you afilliated to Thswane - that is the Greater Pretoria area municipality)

Vodacom: With their new tariffs I pay slightly more at much higher speeds. (Good for business , I am a Vodacom mobile user etc etc). Oh, and they do correctly show Pretoria as opposed to Tshwane ....and it shows full coverage (Oh, those promised towers on a never, never basis from iBurst)

Telkom: I have fixed line costs anyway and use my phone a lot for business. I can buy a basic bundle at 384k that meets or exceeds the speeds I am getting, save on phone costs due to cross subsidizing. I hate this option, but iBurst has shown me loyalty does not pay.

Other providers:
Combining ADSL from telkom with other packages makes great sense. Excellent value!

The exact numbers a found all over these forums.

I think one needs to accept that services at help desks is a non starter all around if you have a problem.

Users need to start voting with their money and pay who gives the best overall package.

Your long awaited and most unfortunate announcement turned out to a total disappointment and slap in the face. Luckily I have made some of my own studies and comparisons.

Sorry, iBurst, you loose!

PS: By the way: why loose out on your carry over if you do not disconnect? iBurst disconnects us regularly early every Thursday morning! Could these two events not be combined? Oh - of course ....sorry for asking.
