I have a Tiscali(Mweb) email account that I have had for a number of years. I have never had a problem when sending email from outlook with smtp.mweb.co.za or smtp.tiscali.co.za when using different connections such as ADSL, Vodacom or MTN.

Ever since I joined iBurst, I have to set my SMTP to smtp.iburst.co.za when connected through iBurst.

If my laptop was permanently connected to iBurst, I would not have aproblem with having it set to smtp.iburst.co.za.

The problem is that I have to visit a few clients at their offices every day and need to connect using their internet. So when I leave my house and get to my client's offices, I have to change my smtp settings in order to send email and when I get back to my house I have to change it back to smtp.iburst.co.za. There has been a few times that I forgot to change the setting and the email stayed in my outbox.

Surely there has to be a way around this. Its becoming frustrating having to change smtp settings every time I change my connection from iBurst to ADSL or Vodacom. I do not have to change the pop setting to receive and its has always been pop.tiscali.co.za.

In general, you need to use the SMTP server of your network provider. In order to cut down on spam,Tiscali/Mweb (and just about every other ISP) will block emails originating from other networks, like iBurst.
This does not apply to POP mail as you need to supply a username and password to access your mailbox.

Gmail.

Gmail has authenticated SMTP servers that you can use from anywhere in the world.
You can associate your old email address with your gmail account and thereafter you can send email through gmail as your old address.

Thanks for the info but prefer my Tiscali email address.

I have managed to get around this problem after lots of searching on the Mweb website.

I had to change the SMTP settings to relay.mweb.co.za.

It seems to be working fine now. Hopefully iBurst wont change anything on their side that will change this for me.

The question still remains, why do I have to change smtp setting when changing my connection from ADSL or Vodacom 3G to iBurst but not when changing from ADSL to Vodacom. If Vodacom accepts Mweb SMTP settings then surely iBurst can also allow for Mweb SMTP settings.

You can keep your Tiscali address. As I wrote above, once you have associated your old email address with your gmail account, gmail allow you to send email as your old address through their SMTP server. You can also get gmail to collect mail from your Tiscali POP box and you will then be able to access it from anywhere, and gmail give you 4-8GB storage for your mailbox.
