iBurst softlaunch prices

Word wakker, word wakker......

We all could have told you, we want 512 with NO cap. Period.
But did they bother to ask.

I have just got some information from the Marketing Manager:

The first 3GIG's of capacity is included monthly, Users will be able to purchase additional blocks of capacity as they require, during the course of the month.

NOTE: you will not be cut off after the the 3GIGS, you will be throttled down to a 64k where you have the option to buy more bandwidth.

They just multiplied their potential user base by 10x.

They need to give details about that 64k though e.g. is it international...

PS: For heavens sake please encourage them to make it EASY to buy extra blocks (e.g. secure web interface). The crap one has to go through to get additional ISP accounts for ADSL brings tears to one's eyes.

Is this a real 64k speed or the telkom like one for International when the cap is reached.[?]

Google is so smart,I typed in Hellkom and guess what google said

Don`t you mean.....<insert evil laugh>
TELKOM!

All i was told is a 64k, but i presume that it will be local and international.

buying addtional bandwidth once we launch will not be done like adsl via phoning in and creating a new account, I believe we will be making it alot easier via a website or something.

If 64K is like ISDN 64k if might not be so bad.
Does it not depend how many users you are sharing with?

BlobNow i dont believe when ASDL caps a person it is at 64k, when I have ADSL and was capped i couldnt even browse, as i remember a 64K isnt that bad.

As Anakin said, we will have different packages once we launch.

By the sounds of the way iBurst works, they aren't currently planning on shaping ports, more like capping ports, that makes the biggest difference vs TK, TK will do one of the following, put you onto a smaller pipe/higher contention/change routing once capped, iBurst will just cap your usage account !
so, if iBurst pull a sentech, and users get 30k average, capped users will have the same speed as uncapped.
This is gonna be interesting!

Rodent dude, where did anyone say anything about disabled ports? im sure things are shapped and not disabled

Before I ordered my ADSL I asked Telkom what kind of international speed I would get once capped. I was told I would get ISDN speeds. Yeah right! I have NO international speed once capped. It damn well sucks. So when I hear 64K once capped, I tend to take it with a pinch of salt. But hey, lets give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happens.

it's common knowledge that dial up speed is much better then ADSL capped speed .. ADSL capped international is not usable ...

I think this is definitely a case of wait-and-see. If you get true 64kb/s after the cap then it isn't terrible. I'm on 64k ISDN at the moment and it's fine for general browsing/e-mail and if I could be connected 24/7 I would be happy.

Perhaps WBS should look into relaxing local bandwidth e.g. after you're capped local is throttled down to 256kb/s, international to 64kb/s. Perhaps they can also look at not counting local traffic towards the cap. These are just some constructive suggestions to reach a reasonable middle ground. Remember most of the potential initial adopters have already been burnt by Telkom and Sentech shenanigans. I hope WBS are taking our feelings to heart unless they want to end up like Sentech.

It is encouraging to see more constructive criticism, compared to the initial reaction. At least such discussions can only lead to more positive interaction.

Also, thank you to those who emailed suggestions and opinions on the product. I will be taking up a position with WBS next month, and hopefully, I can have some influence from the feedback here.
