iBurst Speeds!!

So today I am at home, wanting to do some work inbetween babysitting ... but the iBurst connection is sssoooo slow, that my VPN to the office connects, but all my connections to the servers within the VPN environment times out ... works perfectly on HSDPA

Don't feel alone 63.50 kbps via iBurst connection in Cape Town at present.
 
Running multiple connections to be able to access my servers behind the VPN

Vodacom HSDPA connection in my WinXP VM for VPN, iBurst on the Mac for normal crap
 
mmm at home I get full iburst signal... downloads of 130k

with 3g I get around 80k

but at work...
3g speed of 229k!!!
 
ahhhh not sad i left iBust, now have WiMax(adsl not avaliable) and what a pleasure 512kbps 24/7, 30 - 60 ms latency.

The wait's not so bad anymore, especially if you already have a Telkom line. What's your iBurst cap at the moment?

I've got a 3Gb cap, but with the one month carry over, I have 6.x Gb every month, IE I never fully use my 3Gb

I waited less than 30 hours from the minute I called telkom until I was online and connected.:D
As long as your existing phone line supports ADSL and you do a self install the wait is short.

My stress level has dropped to zero since leaving iburst.:)
 
I am considering going for Do closer 3 (my wife uses the phone alot, and I already have an ISDN line installed) ... will do self install, just to figure out which Wireless router ... do we have to sign a contract with Telkom, or can we do month to month?

There's someting else that bothers me about iburst. The guys in the ****ty signal areas pay the same amount as the guys with strong signal. Is that really fair?
 
@LandyMan, I have the DO3 package on a month 2 month, and at the time the modem/router was free.

I believe the modems will be free again the beginning of next year according to a telkom guy on the forum.

I think so, as you knew (or should have known) what the signal would be like. What pisses me off is the fact that I get full signal, very low FER, but still get below 3G speeds, and I pay full price.

Damn, a year ago I was happy as **** with iBurst ... bunch of cocksuckers!

Is that a decent wifi router/modem? then again, my Gigabyte one should work fine ... I run iBurst through its PPPoE connection parameters

No it's not fair but if they charged at connection quality they'd have to close down.:rolleyes:

When I was with iburst my connection was almost always at 100% speed wise, and I only left because of that cursed accounts department.

It's a Marconi Premium Combo with wireless as well as Ethernet connections, and it has a fairly nice setup even though I run it through my Linksys WRT54G.

As far as I remember there are 3 or 4 different makes that telkom had at the time.
