iBurst very slow

I checked in at lunch time, and it took several tries to get connected. Mostly authentication errors - no, all authentication errors.

Why should I need to set to automatically retry (1 sec) for 99999999 times??

Has anybody had any type of official response relating to when Northcliff tower speed issues will be resolved?

I checked last night and i may as well have used a modem.

Also I noticed MTU has changed once again!!
 
I noticed 'interference' starting up monday, on Rosebank..
Phoned them, got the usual offensive crap about 'there's nothing wrong'. Sent through pings showing the heavy packet loss.

Phoned, story changed, no they're working on that tower. Day passes. Story changes.'no we're checking on Sanlam'. Nothing changed, late afternoon, get told 'no there seems to be a problem on Rosebank, and first thing in the morning a technician will go there.'
Today, no change until late afternoon, where it seems things might be a little better on Rosebank.

Maybe..
 
they're using sentech employee technicians apparently

well... must be... cause the turn around time is just as ****ing slow
 
Well, they've done something to the Midrand tower. I get home to find an almost constant 5 LEDs, and upload speed (BitTorrent) averaging 5-6kB/sec (DU Meter reading). HTTP is sloooooow though. Wonder why. BitTorrent is 2kB on download, and I can't even login to my banking site (Timeout).

You win some, you lose some. The LEDs look nice :P but it doesn't help much if the QOS goes down...
 
At last I am pleased to report that the Centurion tower is up and running and my speed using tcpiq is 275kbits/s download and 95 kbits/s upload.

Better than I hoped.
 
I've now had solid & fast speeds since last Friday, Lonehill & Randburg, with only one hickup during the week. Things are looking good!
 
My speed are sooooooooo slow I want to burn the modem !, ****ers

I cannot get voip too run over it either, and Telkom seems to be rejecting ****ing email again. Has anyone elsed noticed a problem with Telkom email, Saix etc ?
 
Since 17:00 2005-03-04 i'm getting speeds up to 120 kbytes/sec. Downloaded a knoppix iso in 3 hours. But the torrents are slow

Before committing yourself to either looney bin, find out what your options are - can you get ADSL in your area? - if not look at WBS iBurst, Vodacom 3G / GPRS / Blackberry, or Sentech MyWireless - not in any particular order. The decision as to which suites your needs best will be entirely subjective & based on your actual needs - which are...?
 
I just want cheep always on internet 2 D/L file and stuff at faster speeds than dial up :confused:
 
Ok, well unless you have recently won the lottery, the 1st thing to note is that in SA, there is no such thing as cheap internet.

1st goto www.telkom.co.za/adsl, then find the ADSL page that tells you whether your local exchange that you already use for dialup (yes?) supports ADSL based on you typing in your telephone number. If your local exchange does not support ADSL then that option is eliminated from the limited list of possibilities. If the site tells you you can get ADSL you need to call 10219 & double-check bcos the Telkomonopoly site seems to give false-positives or is that false-negatives from 10219 :confused:...

Next have a look at the WBS www.iBurst.co.za coverage maps for your area(s) where you want to have an internet connection. Consider confirming this dubious info with an on-site signal test as well as a comprehensive download & upload test to determine possible throughput.

Do much the same for Vodacom 3G as well as Sentech MyWireless.

When you have eliminated the impossibles you should then start looking at the features of each & different options that will best suite your "D/L file and stuff at faster speeds than dial up" needs ;).

Well written, ic. You should consider adding this to your Readme.1st, or perhaps to a general sticky somewhere on the site where newbies can see it...
