Lucky u, all I can manage is 3 kB/s max! I'm serious! wheres my "up to " 64 k speeds WBS?

I'm uncapped, had NO speed, got fed up this morning, send a support request on their site, no answer yet, but speed came back after 10 minutes, will watch it through the day...

Oops, they did it again: SPEED GONE... :confused:

Is any1 else gettin slow speeds in the fourways area :mad: ? signal keeps dropping? my signal is normally full strength :confused:
 
P2P - Completely blocked or just capped to 64Kbits?

Hi all,

I am starting to get confused here.

Are the P2P networks (eDonkey - eMule and Direct Connect - DC++ in particular) blocked by WBS or there is a technical problem at the moment which prevents me from using them?

As far as I can see, they don't say anywhere that they are going to block P2P completely. They just say on their web site that for the cheaper packages they will cap it to 64 Kbits.

So can anyone tell, are those two particular networks blocked completely? Does anyone successfully downloaded anything from eDonkey or DC networks in last few days?

It would actually be in iburst interest to unblock it at night and let the "p2p kids" use up their 3G when their is obviously an adequate bandwidth allocation.

So how about 10pm - 6am completely unblocked and the rest of the time completely blocked?

Also I am paying for an internet connection, how I am going to use it is my decission, they can restrict the speed, they can put monthly cap etc, I agreed to all this, but nor they or you will tell me how to use what's left from the connection after all the restrictions and limits they applied.

So if you are so upset about p2p, I can especially for you setup some app to do huge downloads over http, just for the sake of wasting the bandwith, so people like you that are not interested in the other people problems get the same crap as we do!

Just ask yourself, when you buy a tv, do they tell you which channels you can or cannot watch?
When you buy a car, do they tell you on which roads you can drive? Because lets say N1 is jamed every morning, do they tell you "sorry, but you are not allowed to drive on N1 because you are going to congest even more the already congested traffic"???

And maybe ask yourself, why other countries do not have bandwith problems? Is the p2p the reason? Don't they use p2p there? Well the answer is no! They are just smarter than people like you obviosuly! When the speed degradates due to increased usage, they add more bandwith, while in SA, people like you, when the speed degradates, they simply start implementing restrictions, which is contrary to fixing the initial problem, it is rather opening doors for much more problems, and forcing people to find workarounds which are usually even more bandwith intensive, so degradating the network even further!

I personally think iBurst should stick to what they advertise. I wouldnt mind if they blocked p2p. ie. I wouldnt fight it

I think what you are suggesting 10pm - 6am is a reasonable suggestion. I would even go as far to suggest they have a dynamic bandwidth monitor that adjusts according to how much p2p traffic is happening on their network as long as it works porperly. So in effect if network stability/speeds are being hampered by p2p then throttle it down.

And I aint silly either. Fact is p2p is a trend and will make iBurst LOTS of money if they find a suitable way to sustain and maintain such an environment.

I know. Dont get me wrong. It's my personal view. If iBurst block it I wouldnt fight to unblock it. I do think iBurst should stick to what they advertise or find some sort of support because it would make them money so they can create an infrasctructure that would sustain such an environment.

I would say a large percentage of broadband users buy it to utilise p2p.
 
vowthorn, I just wonder, have you ever asked yourself, why 1 Mbit unlimited usage connection in most countries in the world cost between R150 and R400 equivalent. Here I am paying for an effective 64 Kbits connection (assuming they stick with what they say on their web site) double that, so that makes for 16 times slower speed I pay double! It is all about monopoly, release all the restrictions on telecommunications in the country and you will end up with real ISP's trying to offer you more and more for less money, like everywhere else. Until you have only 2 companies, both probably owned by the same bunch of assholes and protected by the govermet, so you end up with this crap. So if you want to blame somebody for the pathethic SA internet connection speed, please blame the right people, The ones that make milions of rands every month by ripping off everyone, and not me that is trying to download few files from p2p due to the simple fact that I can't get this thing anywhere else on the internet nor in the local music or movie shops.

About the time restriction on the p2p networks, I think that this make sence if they don't restrict the speed for p2p during night time, if they keep it 64 Kbits and they restrict it only to night time I think that this is little bit too much!
 
P2P should be blocked between 6am - 6PM weekdays only. Don't say/type another word about that subject! That's my personal opinion so don't bother me about it.
 
And one more thing vowthorn, do you know that SA is probably the only country in the world where you are not allowed to make network (even wireless) accross the street! So the world wide free frequency of 2.4 GHz cannot be used in SA due to stupid regulation, which are obviously in place so you are forced to phone telkom and pay them to give you a dsl line and charge you monthly fee of course!

Thanks to stupid Telkom and the government for that. We actually shouldn't be blaming Telkom at all since it's those useless ICASA monkeys (who probably own Telkom shares) that are stopping the show. I won't even mention our minister of telecoms, what a useless ©unt!

Well i tried to play my World of Warcraft and cannot because the updates are all done on P2P and I cannot do that so now what????
