I rekon we just need to hope these drafts go ahead and in the end things will look better. But yet again the speed things work in SA it will prob take forever...

Shame on Telkom, ICASA...

I've moved to the UK, and have pretty much made my mind up - I'm staying here and never coming back...

I have 22MB ADSL at work (22MB Downstream, 1.8MB Upstream) and an 8MB (7.6MB Down, 690k Upstream) at home. We don't pay our Network operator any fee for the DSL service on our lines, and our ISP's are not that expensive - My home connection is £24 per month, and the one at work is £ 52 per month.

Neither connections are capped, and I don't use the landline to correspond with most friends anymore - we all use skype - no cost involved in that either.

These regulations from ICASA seems like a vice grip around every consumer's neck... It may have been loosened a bit but still it seems so unfair to all people using the infrastructure. To have a cap of 10gb may seem like a great step forward, but the connections are still so slow! Some of our streets have older wiring than most area's in SA, so I just don't understand how they don't do anything about it.

I think its time for someone to burn down all the telkom offices - maybe that amount of mayhem may cause them to actually listen to their clients...

Well said...

Our ADSL infrastructure is on the G-lite standard which only supports a maximum 1.5MBits... I belive this is because Telkom has opted for the cheapest ADSL technology.

*sarcasm on*
Well, what do you expect of a company that hardly makes any profit? :D Obviously they'll go for the cheapest available!
*sarcasm off*

I just hope these regulations become LAW soon... how long btw?

Welcome to the forum ViV0 - please tell us more of your UK experience - perhaps in another thread ;)

Does anyone know whats going on wrt the Draft Regulations? And what about the Dotco case? It's been a couple of months without any news...

Hi guys

No date has been set for the ICASA hearings…we expect it to be gazetted soon.

Dotco case: Case will be heard on 22 March.
