ICASA changes its mind, again

All the while they cement the view that they are a circus. No one else needs to do anything, they do it themselves.....

ICASA is incapable of holding a beer, let alone a case.

Honestly, this regulatory authority has done absolutely nothing in its existence except bend to government pressure. When they act independently then maybe I'll give them due consideration.

Court cases and ignoring their demands (and DoC demands) seem to be the only way the communications industry in this country will survive.

Keep DoC and politics out of SA's IT industry and you will see it flourish. Plus fire the ICASA and get a new ICASA without any political strings.

And why is no-one surprised???!!!

At least they are avoiding a greek tragedy by having hearings on granting permission for past events.

But yes, the circus is in town and it's name is not Boswell & Wilkie(sic)

No organization anywhere is independent...there will always be pressure from some kind of entity which will influence decisions.
Although COSATU isn't really an entity, it's just an ANC-minion

fame, of a sort

rpm - i have not seen the media release but from the article it does not seem that they have reversed their decision that the transaction requires approval - i.e. they have only decided not to have public hearings?

if this is the case then, according to ICASA, the whole deal remains illegal

[and this as a warm-up for the telkom media deal :-)]

Hi Dominic

I suspect that Business Times did not include the latest developments in their article. I could not get hold of ICASA this weekend (or for the whole of last week for that matter), but it does seem like they have scrapped public hearings from other media reports...

Will try to contact them again on Monday :)

it would be really great if ICASA did not survive this latest debacle (they shouldn't).
in any other world they would be doomed, but here they will possibly survive as long as they keep bending to(for) the politicians' will(y).

Of course ICASA could be replaced by the ANCYL as telecomms regulator ...

Only one of Poison Ivy's & Stalin-Mafole's plants being scrutinised when there is a whole infestation of their plants, how is it that Paris Mashile has managed to escape?

I suppose I have to be content with the plants committing mutually-unbeneficial-herbicide against one another, one at a time.

we can only hope things improve for ICASA under the minister... otherwise this is more of the same!
