ICASA councilor shortlist released

Previous press statement

The Portfolio Committee on Communications today agreed on a shortlist of candidates to be interviewed on 04 May 2010 in Parliament for a vacancy in the ICASA Council. The vacancy will occur as a result of the term of office of the ICASA Chairperson, Paris Mashile, coming to an end in June this year.

The shortlisted candidates are:-

1. Lahlang Shirley Somo
2. Dr Norman Tinyiko Baloyi
3. Linda Dalbock
4. Tshepo Molai
5. Dr Alison Gillwald
6. Dr Stephen Sipho Mncube

Committee Chairperson, Ismail Vadi, said that he was pleased that there was full consensus among all political parties in the Committee on the shortlist.

Vadi also indicated his satisfaction that a total of 91 nominations had been received, after a slow-run of nominations coming in before the closing date of 29 March 2010. Three further vacancies are to occur later this year, and the Committee is expected to fill these after the mid-year parliamentary recess.

Vadi explained that the present batch of nominees are automatically eligible for the second leg of the process, and need not re-apply for the positions.

SABC Chief Peoples Officer, Phumelele Ntombela-Nzimande, today formally withdrew her nomination for the ICASA Council.

Vadi explained that the present batch of nominees are automatically eligible for the second leg of the process, and need not re-apply for the positions.

Does this not mean that they are automatically included in the new list?
