Icasa Failing

Article heading should read "Icasa Failed" to my mind :D

I'm not sure what impact if any this article has on people at present. A lot of folks know Icasa has failed but since it doesn't look like there's anything we can do about it... it's rather like telling MyADSL users that Telkom are a bunch of prats.

Icasa needs a major overhaul and a new set of teeth.

Yeah that headline is wrong. ICASA has failed.

The sad truth is that GVT will probaly drag their heels on this and it will take another 5-10 years before it gets sorted out!!

And by the time it gets sorted out... We'll be in the dark ages again.
We'll always be playing catch up to first world countries, due to lazyness in our leadership.

They haven't failed chaps they are just on lunch :) Just phoned to lodge a complaint and was told the entire department is on lunch until after 2 fantastic so between 1 and 2 the entire place comes to a standstill suprised they still answered the phone.

Nice article!

Cellular providers were initially supposed to pay around R750 million license fee [not too sure of exact amount] and now they just have to give out a bunch of SIM cards that will make money for them anyway.

Another thing ... it has been about a year since they came to this arrangement and still no SIM cards or Internet connections. So do we get interest?

Or do they just sit on the profit from the savings they are making?

Interest on a couple of million (that they should have paid for the license) could really go a long way ... perhaps a new SAT3 cable :D?

Cara: I guess there justification is that if Telkom doesn't have to meet it's license requirements (rural telecoms? discount internet for schools?) and they get away with it, then they don't have to either.
