ICASA is a disaster: WikiLeaks cable

This brings back memories, who recalls that AT&T were going to be a major shareholder in our next SNO? 2001 if I recall, until ICASA said (again and again ad nauseum) "No, the guys who pay us don't want it".

Whatever happened to Eskom's Pan African cable infrastructure? I recall they had teams laying Fibre and taping it to powerlines - operating many times faster and cheaper than any undersea cable could be laid. The last time I recall hearing about it (apart from them selling it off) was when they were short one country to bridge the entire length. Is 'that' cable around and in use?

There once was an org named ICASA,
Which everyone agreed was a disaster,
They saw all the telecoms flaws,
Hid behind their closed doors,
And blindly continued to serve their corporate master (Telkom)

RPM I expect some sort of prize in my postbox now.

1000 Internet points for you sir!!!

The only things that this government could establish, is a beautiful apartheid museum and a gravy train of note! The rest is all a mess!
By the way, the record for the biggest division between the rich and the poor in the world, also belongs to South Africa!

This is true for all gvt departments I suppose. The skilled gets poached by the private sector while the morons gets left behind.

And this is news how??? I guess you need a fat American Diplomat to say something before its taken into consideration...

Us normal average South African citizens dont count for much....

I am loving the Egg on the ANC's face right now....

:D
Sums it up quite nicely.

ICASA have been as useful to the SA Telecomms scene as cement shoes on an Olympic Athlete!

ICASA, supporting telkom, vodacom, cellc, neotel, sentech and other providers in raping the consumer since 95.

“all agreed that the national regulator, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), has been a ‘disaster’ since it was created in 2000.”
We all knew this, but it still feels good to have someone like Intel or Cisco say it out loud. Well in a kind of leaked document way, you get the idea anyway.....
