ICASA report has huge technical flaws !!!

1. NO.

2. Cannot disagree the access price is higher than other countries but does not mean adsl access=line rental and does not mean it is FREE of costs.

My proposal : bundle dsl access with bandwidth and sell to isps at wholesale price and let isps forward sell to customers. That is how it is sold in the UK. the risk is that the isps wont be transparent on pricing of the different elements.

The argument is , let us keeppressure on pricing without perpetuating that dsl access should not be chargeable because it is everywhere in the world. The only difference would be : who gets charged ? the end user or an isp?

Ayanda - Why didn't you answer all of the questions? There are some important issues in there. Do you not have answers - or are you unwilling to face up to the facts?

The only reason Telkom would want to keep the "Line portion of ADSL" billed directly to the user is that it will then at a later stage be far easier to increase pricing. If an ISP was being charged for the line - The ISP would have much greater clout in terms of effecting Telkom's Business.

point is I can pay R 90 a month to have my phone line maintained. Or rather not even as you start paying call out charges as it is sometimes hard to prove that it was actually in fact Telkom as all of a sudden thing start working as if by magic.

I am not an expert on Telco infrastructure but as someone mentioned in this thread that voice runs over the same network. Then surely I would be able to pay R 90 a month for the ADSL portion? Same amount of maintenance?

Yeh, Vapi says ICASA's report is flawed but if he knew his product
and followed what his own staff have been saying over the years
(Stevie) he would find the real flaws (lies).

Some years ago Stevie said the high additional line rental was to cover
the extra SPEED provided - that was when only 512 was available.

Then they dropped down to 192 but kept line rental the same, then Stevie
talks to ICASA (hearings), (mumbles) and tries to confuse the issue by some
non-understandable diatribe on IP's and such like.

Telkom have been caught out - plain and simple.

Compensation ????????

You know what is interesting that I notice is that Ayanda join the forum on AUGUST 2005, yea you gotta be a spy or a fly from Sizwe bud! Take out doom you guys we have a telscum fly here..........

Correction. BT charges 10 pounds for the first 3 months , thereafter 21pounds
not true. BT Openworld (The ISP) charged ÂŁ21 a month for the first month and ÂŁ19 a month thereafter for a 512 connection, always on, static IP, no cap, no shaping. That was in 2003. I believe it has come down significantly since then. BT (who was the line provider) charged me ÂŁ8 a month for my ADSL line which included my telephony. i didnt pay a separate line rental for the voice portion of my copper line. Ayanda, I think you are a telkom mole. If not, my apologies, but you just so dont fit the profile of the average newbie we have at MyADSL. Welcome on board anyway.

I am curious what the comments from Sentech, WBS, and SNO is ? how is this outcome and subsequent regulations will do to their business plan ? I believe they are already under recovering their cost at present prices , trying to match the recent dsl prices ?

I can confirm that Ayanda works for Telkom. Your stupid opinion is not welcome Ayan...err...Sizwe!

sorry rebel but everybodys opinion is most definitely welcome.
if for no other reason than healthy debate that might lead to more change for the better.
Ayanda has been shot down on every argument based on fact, no need to flame someone personally for having an opinion that differs to yours.

To add.
If it was a Telkom Employee, which I doubt, we would want to encourage them to open debate.
However, it is not Telkom's Corporate Policy to speak directly to the consumer.
Any debate on MyADSL is welcome as long as it is clean.

I think we need to tread lightly here - not that I for one care what a Telkom mole would think, but we should try and avoid the follwing situation:

Telkom, on approaching members of myadsl found them to be hostile, unco-operative and not interested in opinions other than their own. Many members seem to be unaware of the significant technical resources needed to provide ADSL access. Telkom wonders why the regulator whould indulge such a community

It's a game for the public eye of the regulator and the DOC, we need to be careful. Message board tactics will not work in this space.

Dastrix - Wheres that quote from?

It's made up, I was trying to illustrate a situation to avoid. They are going to try and detooth us at every turn, we must play them at their own game.

Rebel, a problem with gay members ?
Not gay as in homosexual. It's just my word for saying something sucks, e.g. instead of saying Telkom sucks, I say Telkom is gay ;)
