ICASSA robbing orphans

Sounds about right for ICASA.

Trying to deal with them has gotten us to the stage where we're thinking of canceling our plans for the South African market and focusing on other African countries.

Great Article - well worth reading.

So Dabba wins the "Social Entrepreneurship of the Year" for 2008 award in Berlin, Germany and now they are a thorn in Telkom's eye. Telkom goes crying to ICASA and they have some of Dabba's equipment confiscated - bloody disgusting.

Here is a small company actually doing something for the rural, poor communities, which has generated worldwide interest - even an article in the Economist - and ICASA has nothing better to do than cut the WiFi access to an orphanage.

What more initiative does the government want to see in South Africa - but then again maybe pockets were not lined properly.

Dabba - go for it - I personally hope you will take ICASA to the cleaners.

hi

Telkom have a deemed spectrum frequency licence in 2.4 GHz. According to a telkom frequency person i chatted to a while back they are gradually moving out of the band but do still use it in some area. They are the primary users of the band and therefore entitled to go to ICASA to ask for protection from secondary users (i.e. licence exempt users providing wireless local area networks).

All users of this band should be aware of this and should ensure that if telkom is using the band in the area that they use other channels

often in these cases where the provider has established some kind of relationship with the local telkom guys and told them what they are doing (remember that there is nothing illegal about this if you are operating within the ICASA Frequency Licence Exemption Regulations 2008 - scroll down to the tables and then look at 2 400 MHz) then it is sorted out with a phone call

the issue here is all about the manner in which ICASA acted

Kekekekekeke.
Only special projects with contacts inside governmint get to survive when Teklom cries UNFAIR!
Look at the Knysna project for an example.

hey stoke
i can personally assure you that there was no corruption or use of inside contacts in government relating to the Knysna project. Just a brave municipality that saw how much money it could save in its telkom bill while providing services in townships in the municipality.
