That score looks to be lacking about 15 - 20 runs. But then given the conditions most teams batting 2nd have faced maybe it might just be enough.
 
as i predicted, these guys can bat damn well. Unless we get a few wickets, were screwed, 260 is no where near enough considering they have sarwan and Lara to come who can steer them home while the others play around them. Gayle needs to go soon!! or its over... :(

Why, oh why does Smith elect to bat first with a ground record of wins in favor of the side that bowls first by FARRRRR...?
 
We need hansies captaincy to bring us back from this one (when hes not planning to lose that is :D :D)

Theyre gonna walk this unless we get a flurry of wickets (atleast 3 or 4 in the next 10 overs)

Cos its a good wicket and batting first is generally a good idea in that situation. Think the record for teams winning when batting second is cos of dew at night.
Its not such an issue in this tournament so don't blame smith for batting first. it makes no difference
 
This match is lost, they need 16 from 56 balls. Smith made some shocking decisions in the field, Nel bowled a leg-side line and was allowed to finish his 10 overs, Polly wasn't recalled into the attack. Plus there were so many catches going to deep midwicket and gully but we never had fielders there.

Yeah - sorry - just frustration getting the better of me ;)
As a consolation, I really did enjoy watching the Windies play like they did - absolutely awesome and potent with the ball and bat - they deserved to win... not because we didn't play our best either...

I really hope they can keep it up against Australia - I really believe this WI team can give the aussies a hiding of note.

Chris Gayle was something else... we can really learn something from him... bounderies without klapping the ball.

I was thinking the same thing. I miss Hansie.
 
I think Kallis gave his wicket away in frustration.. that and we seemed cautious and the bottom batsman we usually depend on to give the final blow failed to deliver.
 
i think we could have got 50 more and gayle would have got there - just one of those days when a guy plays out of his skin

it felt like batting first they needed to feel out a par total - the variety of pitches in the tournament means you have no idea how it is really going to play

semi's is not a bad result

Ur right abt the pitch and the tournament. It was difficult to find out what a good score would be.
But that said, windies finally have a really good ODI team..Batting is up there with the strongest in the world. I mean you have baugh coming in at no.8 and samuels at 7... thats dangerous. Its jst their pace bowling thats a little weak, apart from taylor, they may get torn apart against the aussies ...Gilchrist :rolleyes:

Smith must go as i have said many times before ill say it again..never make a opening batsman a cpt of a team,openers usually come and go and tend to loose form quite easily.

As for the pitch and batting first,there was absolutly nothing wrong about electing to bat first,That pitch was a PURE batting pitch was it not? (FLAT) i would of killed to bat on that pitch,any of you's see how the ball just simply last pace when bowling? or was i just seeing things?

only thing that went into WI favour imho was that they used what was left of the bowling side of the wicket and left us with a carpet to bowl on.

as for Gayles innings well theres nothing spectacular there,i personally dont like his play/batting and stance

seems to me that the WI's like the ICC and SA's worst enemy in any form of cup!!how many times have they done us in a world cup and any other tourny for that matter.

We were made to look like schools boys last night.

Gayle did play very well however i also don't think hes as good as every1 makes him out to be. His technique is not sound and on a decent wicket with movement against decent bowlers (Pollock, Mcgrath, etc.) he has always been found wanting. Again i reiterate, on a fair wicket with some form of help for bowlers, pollock will generally come out on top..
But gayle is definately a world class one day player, because the same can be said of guys like gibbs. No solid technique and on a pitch that helps bowlers like mcgrath, he too doesnt perform...

Kallis ftw! Only real batsmen we have!
