Updated my macbook with latest update that included new iPhoto and was interested in iCloud Photo Library but due to having over 50GB mostly videos that take up the space it'll cost me $3.99 pm.
Crazy.

And yes – iCloud is mucho expensive. But AFAIK, you needn't activate that particular setting, which means your photos stay on your local system, and the photostream lives on across your iOS devices...
I'm upgrading to 10.10.3 atm - 2.23GBJa... will do the Yosemite upgrade (5.5GB :wtfover the weekend, but won't open the new Photo's app yet, until I've done enough reading to figure out what the change entails...
What I will probably end up doing is start putting the new Mac Mini to good use – and take all the photos etc. that are currently sitting on my MBP, and copy them over to the MM. Then I'll play around with the new Photos app over there, and see what the changes are... If it's OK, then I'll remove everything off my MBP – have no reason to keep them on both...
Interested to confirm what will happen with "Events" in iPhoto – are these still transferred 'as is' over to the new Photos app – or are they replaced with that "moments" feature, as it currently works in iOS?

I'm most interested in the Photos app and just how bad it's going to be - it's the only reason I'm doing the update
I prefer it over the previous one but still fiddling.
Which previous one? I only ask because it's intended to be a replacement for iPhoto and Aperture.

So... curious as to if anyone locally is using iCloud for storage?
Actually – I'm not even sure if it is available locally? If it is – anyone using it? See they announced pretty big price drops, and was curious what the tiers are in ZAR??
