Ideas for Telkom protest bumper stickers

Telkom - our prices are very competitive. Um, with who?

Fight Crime: Rape, theft, fraud
Fight Telkom - same thing


Telkom ADSL
Fraudband internet
Highest prices, slowest speeds.
 
Currently in the process of finding someone in Pretoria to get some stickers done. I reckon about a 100 for a trial run first? Have we decided on some designs? We would probably have to refrain from copyright infringment. So maybe if a graphically orientated person could draw up something that wouldn't be illegal we could make some votes?

alacos, dominic, can we use Telkom logo on stickers? Any risks in doing this?

i can have loads printed here - a friend owns a printing business and owes me a few favours... Let me know what you want and how many of them, remembering that the more you print, the lower the unit cost :D

Yes - there are risks that some rabid lawyer will come after us, even if spuriously to mess us around. Some telling parts of that judgement:

In an open democracy valuable expressive acts in public ought not to be lightly trampled upon by marginal detriment or harm unrelated to the commercial value that vests in the mark itself.

Since, in time, marketing brands graduate to cultural icons, they should not be beyond the reach of public disclaim or indeed applause. The purpose of copyright and trade mark laws in an open and democratic society is not to shut out critical expression or to throttle artistic and other expressive acts in a manner that gives way to inordinate brand sway.

In our consumerist society where branding occupies a prominent space in public culture, one does not have to be a ‘cultural jammer’ to recognise that there is a legitimate place for criticism of a particular trademark, or of the influence of branding in general or of the overzealous use of trademark law to stifle public debate.

Any legal attack would, in my mind, be purely vindictive and without foundation. But their lawyers might disagree. :eek:

Please let us know when stickers are available, I will defnitly buy and and sticker as many Telkom offices, exchanges and bakkies as I can find.

Again, I say that we cannot encourage or support people vandalising Telkom property. If you explicitly say that this is what you intend to do, then we will not send you stickers. Don't want to get our asses sued!

Hi Peapod,

Thanks for the offer. We are looking in Cape Town first though, just because we don't want to have to pay corrier costs etc. Gimme a few more days and if we can't find anyone then I will give you a shout. Thanks again.

I'll cover the costs of getting them to you and also make a donation towards printing costs - planning on keeping a few hundred here for distribution.
Also, havent txd that gelt to you yet - been a bit useless (stinking flu) this last week.

Not a prob, just lemme know when you do so I can keep track. I just called a company in CTN re stickers, looks promising, I just emailed them and expect a reply this afternoon. Will take it from there. Thanks for your kind offer again.
