idiotic question

because airbags are there, and they are better too. (plus they don't make you look like an idiot)

It would actually be pretty funny driving into town in peak traffic wearing a helmet and see the people's reactions!

I've driven my car with a construction hard hat + saftey goggles before :D Got some seriously wierd looks..

Back in the day when I did regularity rallying, we wore helmets all the time. Intercom in the helmets was a great aid to actually hearing your navigator, and with a helmet on you feel totally indestructible and drive like even more of a Charlie than you normally would! :D

had a similar thought recently.
I wear a balaclava under my helmet on the bike.
When its too hot, I just wear a beanie (keeps the sweat out of the helmet inner lining and I have to wash it less often).

When its cold and you don't have a heater in the car, would you consider wearing a balaclava or would that just look too suspect?

Better still why don't cars come standard with roll cages?
Despite the inconvenience when getting in and out of the car, it will make side impacts and roll-overs a lot safer.

Apart from the obvious fact that the risk of head injury in a car is significantly reduced, helmets also reduce a drivers field of vision.

Cars come with integrated roll cages...
