no! not really, but what if?

By the rapid rate at which the virus is mutating to sidestep our natural defences could it be a matter of time before it can survive in an oxygen enviroment and sprout wings?

would it be natures last act to save itself and wipe out our destructive species?

would a select few be immune and survive?

animals and insects should survive, do they hold the key?

would we have to wear gas masks?

or would some pharmaceutical company pull their heads out of anuses and release a cure?

ok, 1stly, HIV is a weak virus, it needs a living host to survive... once exposed to air, the virus simply dies... Now, if it were to mutate (which is unlikely because it seems to replicate rather slowly) into an air born disease, then the amount of people that would be infected would be massive and in about 20 odd years the population would decrease massively, but because of the amount of infections that happen, some people would become immune to it... this is happening in central africa where i think they found people to be infected with the virus, but not actually affected by it, so they become carriers(just like when you get infected with herpes, it doesn't kill you, nor does it leave you ever).

the best way to show this is look at the Ebola virus, that virus replicates incredibly fast, but it only infects people by the transfer of blood and it's been around for far longer then what HIV has been around... yet, it hasn't mutated into an air born disease... even malaria needs blood to be transferred between animals and people(although malaria isn't a virus)

Honestly, I would be happy if in some way HIV became airborne and dramatically decreased world human population, not a nice thing to say but I think the environment would get a break from our destructive ways of living our lives.

So, if you combine that with your sig, you need to go and end yourself...

Quickly now, get someone to send pics.

HIV can never become airborne. It's a virus, not a bacterium. It needs a host to survive. Period.

oh plz, humans will manage their own population one way or another...as resources become limited, tensions will rise and war will break out and a few billion should die :).

How would you feel if it was you or your loved ones were affected by it

I really don't believe these humans! They think that their minor impact via pollution will destroy the earth. From what I have read the KT Impact, caused more pollution damage than modern man has managed to do. And there have been a number of such events in the earth history. Sure, we might loose a couple dozen species or so, but we could gain a few new mutates as well.

You always hear of how many species are dying out, but not many people talk about how many new species are arriving to fill these spots. It's as if people want things to stay as they are now, and not to change ever.

Before, you attack me, think about that I have said. I am not for pollution, just lets not make out that people are going to make this earth a barren planet like Mars. The earth is much strong than we believe.

BS!!!!!!!!! ok, well the flu is cause by a virus, and where do you get the virus from? the air :p.

Viruses are very simple, and depending on the virus, some can live years outside a host... they basically become crystals... The best example is the virus that cause warts such as planters warts. those viruses can stay infectious for years in the ground until you come walking along and get infected.

the reason why HIV can't become air born is because of the protein structure that makes up it's cell wall...

So what's causing it then? The cows?

I beg to differ. Simian ebola has mutated and become airborne, and all this in Washington, D.C. - within site of the White House!

The human equivalent, has fortunately, never made that mutation.

Problem with war is that the environment will get damaged and animals will suffer just because humans are fighting amongst themselves, a virus is the way to go, maybe the avian flu virus will mutate.........

Okay, you first. :p

No offence but that "you first" argument or comment is old and holds no value at all. It's like saying a CEO must be retrenched first and can't retrench workers as he needs to cut costs of a company.

How would you feel if it was you or your loved ones were affected by it

Obviously I would feel terrible, I am just saying that it will be good for the environment and animals if a lot of human beings die, I mean we as humans are detroying the environment. From the forests that we wipe out in order to have wood for paper and to build dams to all animals that are being displaced from their natural habitat by human being's population explosion.
