Check your bank account.
They've fraudulently debited nearly R1000 off mine this weekend.
Now they say I must go to the bank to sort it out because their refund process takes 40 days.

Bunch of thieves.

You can stop unauthorized debit orders via online banking.

I see your R1000 and raise you the R1360 that Amazon took off my account yesterday for a surprise annual Prime video subscription I didn't sign up to.

$99 really stings with our exchange rate!

Turns out their free trial converted into a paid subscription with no warning, but it had a happy ending: I could cancel immediately and I'm now due the full amount as a refund (in only three days).

Lesson learned: no more 'free' trials!

They wanted me to pay a reconnect fee to close my account. Lol u told them to f off.

Yes I stopped it, but that doesn't refund it.

I think it does but phone the bank and confirm. I don't actually remember safest just go to the bank.

This was actually clearly communicated by Amazon when signing up.

Welcome to the club. Happened to me twice, back when I was still with them. Both times, took me 2 months to get my money back. Both times the person "forgot" to process my request.
Funny how they expect you to pay money, owed to them, within days, threating to hand you over etc. But when they owe you, you must wait.

Don't worry. Jan or Kevin will soon post an article from naspers explaining this.

Wonder how many people they get this way? And how much interrest they make on this money lying in their account for 40+ days. They don't pay back the interrest.

Lay a criminal charge of theft against the CEO of Multichoice - you'll be surprised how quickly they refund you.

You mean an article titled "Netflix billing horror stories" and then a quote from Multichoice stating how billing errors they have are minimal ;)

Why would they threaten to hand you over? Do you not pay in advance? If you dont pay you should get no service. There is no obligation to pay afaik.

It happened to a friend of a friend, so it must be true :D

no, just kidding, I was actually confused with the SABC who threatened me a while ago. Apparently I skipped a payment 10 years ago and they want the money now.
First half of my post is true though. I should actually made it more generalizing. Hard to have an positive view on these establishments taking our money.

Same happened to me now. I got debited R890 and MonoChoice says I must phone the bank to reverse the debit or wait 40 Days! This was due to a "system error"/"upgrade".

Let's make a lot of noise about this.
