I'm annoyed today as it seems like my English teacher is enjoying failing me... I'm so far getting 70's in bio and maths, 80's in geog and science and then English comes along and I get 30-50's??? Wtf??? I'm i missing something here??? How could i be getting such bad marks?

With English I found it's better to try and please your teacher than to be individualistic, when writing essays etc. The grammar side is pure learning, so either you're not doing that or you're doing it wrong.

Dude - just go down on the teacher already

+100

I learnt that the hard way to... do not be too creative you might say something that challenge the mind of the teacher and then.... fail.... be sweet and nice and boring.

Depends on the teacher... Ours loved the "Waaaaaaaaaaaay out of the box" essays, and she graded you well for that.
/me guesses that she was bored at work. :D

I used to get sent to the school psychologist for my essays.

back then in apartheid-close-minded-society.

Scotty777 not trying to be funny or anything, but read more books. It will improve your grammar and spelling (not saying that is the prob). But reading is generally the best way to improve your English results. er.... and i mean read english novels or wateva - not comix 'n the like.

Start with Wilbur Smith's Warlock. You'll love it. Just don't be too far from google to find some word definitions.

sigh... I dunno... I just don't know wtf to do, and it would stuck if i fail matric with 3 distinctions or more

What aspect of English are you having a problem with? Are your essays coming back with low marks, or is it comprehension tests or grammar tests? Can't you speak to your teacher to find out where the problem is and what you might be able to do to improve?

I know it's changed since I was in Matric, but if you could speak the language and had basic reading comprehension you would pretty much pass (not well, necessarily, but you'd get more than 30%). And you seem pretty intelligent, so I wouldn't expect you to be in danger of failing

Shouldn't that be...

I'm annoyed today as it seems that my english teacher enjoys failing me. I'm, so far, getting 70s in biography and maths, 80s in geography and science and then english comes along and I get 30-50's? *explicit* Am I missing something here? How could I be receiving such bad marks?

I would've given you 40% too ;)

And you have to write out the words... so it should start:

I am.....

Thank goodness i am finished with this!!

I don't think the standards have increased. It's more a case of more bad English circulating. Just look at the TV where anything goes. Radio is just as bad. Newspapers are flooded by 'reporters' who have to have all their articles super-edited (poor eds ). There are few standards for the language in general. It's getting bombarded by Americanisms as well.

I'm fairly certain that you want to capitalise "English" too

*biography and math*

Maybe the problem is right there -- you dyslexic or ADD or something.

the PEDANTIC one

You've misattributed that post - it was by quovadis, trying to correct scotty77's post.

And your grammar wasn't all that good in your post, either ;)
