IM apps stays logged in.

I am busy setting up a friend's iPhone 4, and have run into a strange issue.

For some reason Facebook and Google Talk now shows him as logged in and available even when the phone is switched off and he isn't logged in anywhere else.

This is of course confusing his contacts when they try to contact him and getting no response.

Anyone knows what is going on here?

I am guessing that more than likely the app is talking to the IM company servers and that is keeping an 'online' connection to the various chat services. I know Agile Messenger does that on my iPad, haven't tested others.
A few (well maybe really just 1 but will add more anyway) ways to get round this ....
1. In the app there will be a "sign out of accounts" type option
2. Ensure the app isnt enabled for Push in Settings, Notifications
3. Kill the app when not using it, double press the home button, hold down on one of the icons so they jiggle then press the red - at top left of icon to kill it from running. This will have to be done every time if you go this route. I don't think this is ideal, pretty sure #1 above is the real reason here.
