What cope needs is a new face, someone like mandela and obama, someone who will appeal to both poor people and black people and white people. Zuma appeals to poor people while Dandala appeals to.... eeerrrr... i don't know. all cope needs is a face, and they better find that face during the next five years.

Dandala appeals to Xhosa people and I suspect COPE wants to leverage his popularity to cement their chances in the Eastern Cape, followed by the Western Cape.
That's very short sighted considering that provincial parties built on tribal appeal don't thrive in SA. I mean look at the once powerful IFP in KZN, their support has been dwindling and I suspect the party will die with the death of Buthelezi. He's already looking very tired and frail.

True, I don't think the approach can sustain a party in the long run but I'm sure they will exploit Dandala's popularity in the EC and WC for these particular elections.
Zuma is credited with winning supporters in the KZN away from IFP to the ANC. Zuma is zulu and IFP supporters saw Zuma as one of their own and therefore since 1994 IFP supporter numbers started declining mostly because of Zuma. So i think ethnicity still play a big political role in this country.
